The question is, why isn't there a sidewalk. "There will be a sidewalk" isn't a good enough answer.
People are right to question these things. Didn't people just assume the wall blocking the view on the Western Gateway Bridge wasn't going to be permanent?
The Times Union features a regular column on these types of issues. What is interesting is that the State often does not know that something is not as it should be until someone brings it to their attention.
I'm pretty sure the sidewalk requirement has nothing to do with the municipality, so people are free to moan about it all they want.
I was on Nott Street near the co-op yesterday. There is a sidewalk on one side, a level, flat one. There was also someone running in the road, the narrow, busy road, on the side without the sidewalk. Go figure.

The roads/infrastructure are crumbling......but......i'm glad to hear that there is a level flat sidewalk on Nott St.

It would be helpful if people get their facts straight before posting or commenting on a topic.
First - Stewart's on Hamburg Street was NOT a remodel.  They built a completely new store and tore down the old one.  That project was approved and built BEFORE the state disclosed its plan to overhaul (widen, etc.) Route 146.  The same with the building housing central dispatch - approved and built BEFORE the state disclosed its intentions.
Second - A sidewalk is a part of the plan for the Superior Office Supplies building and they had even marked off where the sidewalk was going to be placed -- then the state disclosed its plan to overhaul (wide, etc.) Route 146 and the state recommended that developer hold off on installing the sidewalk.  The actual placement/location of that sidewalk will depend on the design of Hamburg Street along that stretch.
Third - The insinuations that anyone has gotten special treatment is a pile of horse sh*t.  To the developer's credit, he went above and beyond what was required by voluntarily installing a sidewalk which now connects the street/neighborhood behind Superior Office Supplies to Hamburg Street.
Fourth - This whole thread is just another futile, attempt by the chronic whiner and complainer to create an issue where there is no issue.

On to my opinion:
a) It would certainly make sense to install a sewer line along Hamburg Street at the same time the road is being completely overhauled.   It would be less expensive to do it then rather than later.  It would increase the marketability of properties along hamburg Street and encourage more investment in commercial projects.  It would make the Hamburg Street Corridor a thriving and vital commercial corridor.  Quite frankly, it is a pathetic embarrassment that this corridor so close to Exit 25 of the I-90 does not have sewers.  That is why it has floundered for so many years.
b) The west side (original design) of the Western Gateway Bridge looks much better than the east side.  The complaints of a bunch of half-assed nayboobs and the caving in of state officials by changing the look on the east side has resulted in the bridge looking half-assed.

Well excuse me for using the term remodel vs newly built.   Regardless, it was something that mandated a building permit.

And you can provide the EVIDENCE of your statements?????    Provide the link to official websites that proves what you say?????

Can we see that evidence?

No one is holding their breath for you to provide such EVIDENCE because we know you have none.

Sure, IF sewers were to be put in, yes, lower cost now.

However, care to tell us, are YOU going to pay for the costs to the residential homeowners out of YOUR pocket?????    It's easy to cheer for something that others will pay for, as long as it does not come out of your pocket.   Are you pleading with the town to install a sewer for your two mommies?  Naturally they can afford it and you have no financial responsibilities.

If it is required and was included in the site plans, how did they get a certificate of occupancy without it?
I guess it's who ya know...

Agreed.   Rich politically connected crony developers will not have to pay for a sidewalk, we taxpayers will pay for it with the taxpayer paid project

NOBODY IS FORCED TO HOOK UP TO SEWER SYSTEMS!!!!!!!

However....EVERYONE in the sewer district pays a sewer tax whether they connect or not.

Before sewers can come in...that district has to vote on it.

Define "the sewer district."   If it's sewers only ON Hamburg St, then "the sewer district" would be ONLY properties actually on Hamburg St, right?

Then who would be "the voters" who would be voting on it?

The facts as I stated them are accurate.  This thread is just a pathetic cry from the he/she nayboob for attention.

No, it doesn't answer the question. Go back and read what I said. I'm glad citizens pay attention to what is going on in their communities, and I wish more of them were that vigilant.
The sidewalk on Nott Street in Niskayuna has nothing to do with the roads, really. It was never an either/or choice, and I believe the people living there were in favor of the idea. It certainly gets a lot of use. I was just curious as to why someone in Niskayuna wasn't taking advantage of the much better running surface. I know that hundreds of Schenectady residents will choose to wander down the middle of the street even when sidewalk is available, but I don't usually see people making such odd choices in Nisky.

Vigilant is one thing....being accusatory is something entirely different.
