10-cent increase in the federal gas tax
“The poll, which was conducted by the San Jose, Calif. Mineta Transportation Institute,
found that 71 percent of voters would be willing to pay a dime more than the current
18.4 cents-per-gallon gas tax if the money is spent on ‘projects to maintain streets,
roads, and highways.’”

The director of the study said the findings show voters are willing to support a gas tax increase
if they can be assured the money will be used to pay for transportation projects.

Wow! Good for the residents of San Jose!

I propose they do this on a state level first to how it works out.

Eliminate income tax and I'd consider extra $0.10/gal gas tax

Um... It was a national poll from a CA based research institute.

About Mineta Transportation Institute

The Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) was established by Congress in 1991 as part of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Equity Act (ISTEA) and was reauthorized under the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st century (TEA-21). MTI then successfully competed to be named a Tier 1 Center in 2002 and 2006 in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).

According to a poll released by the Mineta Transportation Institute,
San Jose, CA , a majority of Americans would support a 10-cent
increase to the current federal 18.4 cents-per-gallon gas tax if used for
specific transportation purposes.

So it's a government created entity. Shocking!

Anyway, the results are skewed because of the play on words.

to which we already know it never will never ever, never, never, ever, never be used exclusively for that.

We already pay 68.7 cents per gallon in combined state and federal taxes here in NY, the highest in the nation. Not to mention the 'toll' roads.

So Boxy. Do you think that extra 10 cents is going to make the roads less shitty than they already are?

Thank you for the reminder....

Boxy, whatever did happen to that trillion dollars that was allotted for major projects such as this during the 'Great Bailout'?

I wasn't promoting the .10 tax.  Just informing the uninformed.
