The maneuver abruptly resolved what police called a violent crime spree by Valencia, who allegedly threatened officers with a stolen hunting rifle and fired a shot moments before the crash. Valencia allegedly stole the .30-.30 rifle from a Wal-Mart after police said he tried to set a church on fire, invaded a home and stole a car.

Not sure if running him down was the solution but this wasn't just a suicide attempt.

Yes, and Americans seem to have the highest rate of people "throwing away their lives" based on the U.S.  Governments mass incarceration rate.

Here Are All Of The Nations That Incarcerate More Of Their Population Than The U.S.
No country incarcerates a higher percentage of its population than the United States. At 716 per 100,000 people, according to the International Centre for Prison Studies, the U.S. tops every other nation in the world.

Guess Seychelles doesn't really count, since their population is
somewhere below 100,000.

Police Chief: Wasn't Easy Decision for Officer to Hit Suspect with Car

Apr 16, 2015 // 10:37pm  

A controversy erupted this week after dash cam video surfaced showing a police officer running down a suspect with his police cruiser.

KOLD's Som Lisaius reported on "The Kelly File" tonight that the suspect in the video was armed with a stolen rifle and a box of ammunition from a local Walmart.

He explained that he was roaming around the streets of Marana, Arizona and not listening to the commands of responding police.

Police were worried that if the suspect entered a local business, he could potentially take hostages or potentially something worse.

Marana Police Chief Terry Rozema told Lisaius that it wasn't an easy decision for the officer to ram the suspect.

Rozema said that the suspect was released from the hospital two days later and has been booked in jail.
