While Galesi lives like a king off the backs of the Schenectady city taxpayers

And while his Buicko lives in the lap of luxury off the back of the Schenectady city taxpayers

While the two millionaires are busy with the casino on which to pad their bank accounts on the backs of the Schenectady city taxpayers

SCHENECTADY

Broken door has handicapped left out in the cold

  BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

Winter has killed the disability-access door to the Schenectady County Department of Social Services building.

A woman in a wheelchair was frustrated this week to sit in the cold rain, pressing a button that did not work. It’s supposed to automatically open the door to the building.

It’s been broken since the beginning of March, said county spokesman Joseph McQueen. The security guard inside has been keeping an eye out for the disabled and personally letting them in while the county waits for a new door.

“We notified our landlord,” McQueen said.

The landlord, Galesi Group, installed a temporary door but has not yet put in a door that opens automatically.

“It basically broke due to the wind whipping through,” Mc-Queen said. “It pulled open the door and broke the motor.”

For the woman trying to get in, Delores Inzero, it was the second obstacle in a difficult trip to DSS. First, one wheel of her wheelchair got stuck in a small crack near the sidewalk. Then, when she got to the door, it wouldn’t open.

“So I sat in the cold until someone was nice enough to let me in,” she said.

McQueen said county officials reviewed security footage and determined she waited less than a minute.

"Security was looking through a bag and as soon as he finished with the bag, he saw her,” McQueen said.

Security guards are aware the door is broken, “so they are aware to watch,” McQueen said.

Officials also inspected the pavement where Inzero’s wheelchair got stuck. That problem also looks weather-related, McQueen said. Workers were to patch the pavement by today, he added.

Inzero said once she got inside, she was pleasantly surprised by the operation inside.

“I don’t use DSS services, but I was there to advocate for my sister-in-law, who is in a nursing home,” she said. “It was the most efficient operation     I’ve ever seen.”

She waited for more than three hours, she said, but that was fast considering the number of people waiting in line. She was pleased by the way the workers divided up the various services into booths, so residents could go to the line that fit their need.

I wonder whether state law allows a landlord to replace a handicapped door with a non-handicapped door, even for a month.   And Galesi/Buicko's close buddy McCarthy did not have his code enforcers cite the landlord?   Hmmmmm.   Seriously a crack in the sidewalk with the wheelchair COULD have resulted in someone getting hurt.  Thank goodness it didn't.

So has the door been replaced yet?

Maybe the woman waited for "less than a minute," and fortunately this was only this week when it was a bit warmer.  But 30 seconds for a person in a wheelchair is too much.  And what if it was 10 below zero?

Galesi should have replaced the door within 24 hours after it broke.   He's rich enough, but nope, too interested in the casino.  The poor of the city don't matter, he doesn't live in the city, he doesn't pay the high taxes of the city.   His local CEO Buicko gets rich off the backs of the taxpayers in the city, Buicko has absolutely no clue what life in the city is like, he doesn't remotely have a clue what it's like to be a handicapped person waiting in the cold in a wheelchair while paying the highest taxes around AND this Mrs Inzero IS paying Galesi's taxes (she IS a homeowner and thus paying taxes).  Buicko wants NOTHING to do with living IN the city, paying the highest taxes around and living in a crime and blight filled city.  Buicko doesn't even remotely want anything to do with living ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTY and pay higher taxes.

Apparently a good group of employees but for a three hour wait to be called efficient is does indeed reflect how BAD Schenectady is.  So many people in poverty and desperate need of services, that they cause a three hour wait.  Paying the highest taxes around, making the building's landlord richer, and more and more people need social services in the city.

This is the building that the billionaire so poorly built that it was falling apart a while ago.

And of course, just another phony name listed as owner:    "797 Broadway Group LLC"

sorry she had to wait for THREE HOURS.....BUT......
when you go to dss for nursing home issues, you CALL to make an appointment FIRST.
actually the nursing home will call FOR YOU!!!
nursing home issues are handled quite differently.
if your apt is at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m....they take you right away!!!
so I don't know if she wasn't informed or not!
But they are ALWAYS by appt.

Schenectady County is a poverty stricken overtaxed mess all caused by the DEM fiscal incompetent team. They keep giving PILOTS to the friend and family plan members while the shrinking
number of people that pay the full assessment aka suckers cannot sell their properties. No one wants to pay these DEM confiscatory taxes so new business must all get taxpayer giveaways with zero
accountability.
