oh there are still bookies...trust me.
however many of the old time bookie spots are now for drug dealers.

in the old days...."bookies" were harmless...didn't carry guns .....just a piece of paer and a pen...lol

there used to be a secret place for pickup and payouts....and everyone knew it...including the police..harmless dealings...

Drugs are absolutely NO different. It's a business. People go to the business to purchase their products. No one is forcing them.

Same with gambling...legal or illegal....people go to the business to gamble....no one is forcing them.

Sure....folks steal money to gamble and buy drugs....but folks also steal money to by food.

The only difference is the government can't get their grubby hands on the illegal ones.

So the government learned from the illegals. Gambling and drugs was  a money maker.

So now you have legal gambling....casinos.
and legal drugs....pharmaceutical companies.

it's a win-win for everyone!!! Got it?

They both destroy families and lives. Yeah, less violent but don't pay and see what happens. Another of "handful of crimes" on Broadway add a carjacking yesterday.
It's getting closer as the City "renaissance" goes Countywide. Fewer carcasses to pick over in the City. Has already spilled into Old Nisky. Smart ones have headed for the hills.
If they can unload property at rock bottom prices.

It wasn't a carjacking.  The car was found on Patton Drive.  They shot someone allegedly taking out their garbage in the morning, only to take a car and dump it less than 5 miles away?  Violent criminals are stupid, but shooting somebody to joyride a gold Lexus is pretty unbelievable.
