Any thoughts/opinions on why there is not universal equipping of them for buses?   It seems when these tour buses crash there are fatalities that would have a better chance of surviving if they had seat belt equipped buses.   Even airplanes that are taxying on the tarmac require them and airline mileage is safer than ground transportation.   Lobbyists might figure into this somewhere or cost.  If cost is the case then what is a human life worth?

Buses, taxis and I believe trains too, are all exempt from seat belt laws.

Certainly in an accident a seatbelt would reduce injury or death.

I have never seen a bus or taxi that didn't have seatbelts available, though.

I was never on a train, so I wouldn't know if seatbelts exist on them.

From the DMV website:
Seat belt use is not required in taxis or livery vehicles, emergency vehicles, 1964 or older vehicles,
or by passengers in buses other than school buses (seat belt use may be required by the school district).
Rural letter Carriers are also exempt while they are delivering mail.

I even remember riding the CDTA buses when you could ride standing up. But not in front of the white line.

SEAT BELTS ON SCHOOL BUSES

New York State law requires that large school buses manufactured after July 1, 1987, be equipped with seat belts, and that schools make them accessible to each vehicle occupant. Every school bus driver is required to wear a seat belt, and children under the age of four must ride in properly installed, federally-certified child safety seats. Each school district sets its own policy for seat belt use by the other passengers.

seat belts???......should be in school buses, taxis ...school bus drivers are scary....have you ever been on a tour bus racing with another bus ???....

.have you ever ridden in a taxi and the driver is creepy along with other passengers??? and travelling at great speed......

and you are the last one dropped off???..

have you even been in a plane and an event prevents it from landing???/and has to circle for hours or go elsewhere to land??

to make fun of seat belts in any of the above  is pathetic......hope that  you never have to experience any of these events. ..

sometimes humor just doesn't make it.....

Will have to ask Wades,Yankee Trails, etc. why tour goers do not at least have the option of belts.  After all we are always being told car seatbelts are for our own good/saves lives.   Why should our lives be worth less in a bus/public transportation.

How appropiate.   Anyone see ABC News on Chan.10 Friday at 6:30 PM?   They ran a video/story of a City bus accident where it broadsided a van running a red light.   Video shows all 5 passengers tossed all over the bus.   Belts would of made a difference.   Happened in Albuquerque,New Mexico.    Possibly on You Tube or Chan. 10 website.

Do you think there needs to be a law requiring actual use of seat belts ? or should it be like the pledge of allegiance  ?

of course not.....we don't needs laws to make us protect ourselves....laws make criminals and protect insurance companies and
make more lawyers for the stupidest things.....

school children need to learn to make choices of their own....not follow lock-step with government 'protection' through
legislation....

we must ask ourselves what the purpose of all this legislation is for? freedom? control? money? status quo? hierarchy? etc etc

We grew up quite well WITHOUT seat belts!
they should be 'offered' but should be a choice.

Making seat belts a 'law' became a major money grab. (I KNOW THAT FOR A FACT)

It honestly had nothing to do about 'safety') FACT!!

I think that there should at least be a law to require that seat-belts be installed in all buses and trains. People won't have the option to use them if they aren't available.

As for seat-belts on airplanes, they do make a difference reducing injuries during turbulence and if there are problems when taking off or landing.
