Quoted from sanfordy2

New owner of mall will be hard pressed to revive it as currently organized...but then again,
not sure they want to revive it instead of stripping the assets then dumping the bones.

Gee, you'd think that with the supposed rich people that will be supposedly flocking here, buying up houses, more people living here -- ya know, this so called renaissance -- that not only would Macy's remain open but the mall would add a second floor and tons of stores will open up.

Schenectady IS DYING and taxpayer funded gambling, taxpayer funded gin mills, and corporate welfare to rich political cronies in return for kickbacks is NOT going to help the city.

And the net LOSS of jobs under the metroplex handouts is what?

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

true renaissance in bloom. You mean the casino wont be a big boom for them? It is about a mile away!

The Bellagio is going to build there, and 99 is going to be a Hard Rock Cafe.  The big money is rolling in after the Casino announcement.  Schenectady has no time for these small fish.

No other casinos can come here.

The casino parties paid good money to the government to make sure that they have no competition.

First, technically the Macy's store building and a portion of the parking lot nearest it are a separate piece of property from the rest of the mall.   That piece of property does NOT belong to the owners of the mall but to Macy's parent company.

Second, this store closing is part of a 14 store closing announced by Macy's today.  So something is up with Macy's and its parent company.

Third, people that I know that work at the Macy's in Rotterdam Square Mall have all said that they were surprised that this closing hadn't come sooner.  When Federated Department Stores (Macy's parent company) bought out May Department Stores (Filene's parent company), the expectation was that the Rotterdam Square Mall store would eventually be closed because it did not have the square footage of a typical Macy's store.  There were other issues in the years since Macy's took over.

Quite honestly, I haven't stepped inside ANY Macy's store in about 6 years and would never step in one again.  First, I prefer smaller hometown specialty stores.  Second - When I do shop in a large department store, I prefer 2 departments (names not important) that are located in other parts of the country.

Who can blame them. The mall is dead. You can walk the whole mall on a regular basis and not run into other people. Losing Macy's will mean the end of that place. K-mart and Sear's are draws anymore--they're dieing chains themselves.

brick and mortar stores will be disappearing in numbers......there will not be store after store after store to go to......we will have to
travel to make it a destination to shop at any 'big store'.....

the future is here along with the internet/amazon/fedex/ups.......

the only stores that will pop up every where like measles are the 'dollar stores' and specialty stores.....and even then it will be limited...

soon the cell phone stores will disappear as services consolidate.....

there will be empty buildings again....

tough to compete when Crossgates and Colonie Center are 10 minutes away and people have the ability to shop electronically.
