Does anyone know if the Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer before each meeting is a requirement/law for all governing bodys?   Must all partake in each one?   Sometimes I've noticed some not partaking, but stay in the room.   Are they breaking the "law"?   When we were children we did the Pledge at the beggining of our homeroom class each morning in elementary school.   Do they still do this at that level of schooling?

Are you serious?  Have you never heard of Freedom of Speech?   No one is required by law to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance or the Prayer.  Personally, I think there should be a Pledge and a Prayer at all public meetings and I do participate in them.  However, I would certainly respect the Constitutional right of others to not participate.

What about the Muslims, Jews and Hindus do they get a prayer too? What about the Atheist do they get a moment of "nothing"?

I said that I believe in "a prayer" at the start of a public meeting.  I never said that it had to only be a prayer from one religious tradition.  It would be a very simple thing to do a Christian prayer at one meeting, a Jewish prayer the next meeting, a Muslim one the next, etc.

As far as the atheist thing.  I specifically said that no one should be required to participate.

But they would be there as well as the followers of others religions and be unsought participants whether they like it or not. You can not un-participate, just as a hit and run victim can un-involve themselves.

Try keeping your religion out of the lives of those who choose not to participate.

if they choose to they could have a 'moment of silence'.......do whatever anyone wants during that time. pray, day dream, think of what will be for dinner...blah blah blah!!!! no big deal here!

as far as the pledge to THE FLAG.....same thing...participate or don't.
no big deal here either.

its a moot point.

No one is required by law to have an abortion.

DO you support the right of women to have an abortion?

Just referencing DV's hypocrisy.   Wants the right for people to choose not participate in the pledge, or choose not to participate in a religious prayer,  but does not want the right of women to make their own personal private choice on abortion in accordance with their own personal, private beliefs based on religion or lack thereof.

Every American has the Constitutional Rights to Religion and Free Speech.  The courts have upheld the constitutionality of prayer before public meetings. If you choose to not participate that is your business. Oh -- and if you really read the original post and my initial response -- you would know that I clearly stated that no one should be punished for NOT participating in the pledge or the prayer and that it was the original poster who thought those who were not participating were breaking some kind of law.

You are mixing the belief of the right not to participate in a ceremony, and the right to terminate a human life.  If the unborn human life is the property of the woman while in the womb, then it is the woman's property outside of the womb, and can be done with as the woman wishes.

I can't help it if MikeChristine either a) never heard of the U.S. Constitution and/or b) does not believe in the Constitutional Rights to Free Speech and Religion contained within it.   And it is crystal clear that he/she opposes freedom of speech and religion.
