So, I see a room full of people at this council meeting.   And there's DV's beloved McTHIEF.

For all the praise he lavishes on the mayor and the dems, and claiming the city so improving (a city he REFUSES to LIVE IN), he won't even put a pinky toe in city hall for his beloved buddy's speech.   Too chicken?   You'd think with all the cronies there he'd try to rub their butts with his nose and speaking during privilege of the floor with a brown noser speech that he's get applauded for.

Listen to the mayor, referencing the city talking about investing in downtown using money from the "city" and "metroplex."   JACK a**, it's NOT the city's money its' NOT plex's money.   IT'S THE TAXPAYERS' MONEY !

Bragging new paved streets, the sidewalks, blah blah paid for with the homeowners' money, but the homeowners have to pay for their own sidewalks PLUS the sidewalks of the properties belonging to the millionaire political cronies?   WHY?

Just more proof the HOMEOWNERS  are NOT seeing a return on their investment.  Anyone have any EVIDENCE that shows what the homeowners have gotten in return, in their own personal finances and their neighborhoods?

yes he will.
remember....no matter who gets elected or what party they are from....they will ALL have to stay connected to the friends and family club.
that's a given.
not a damn thing would change.

I consider Mayor McCarthy to be a friend and would most certainly treat him like a member of my family.

Does McCarthy think highly enough of you to give you a job?

If you love him so much, why do you REFUSE to live IN his city -- not by renting, not by owning.    Your REFUSAL to live in the city you claim is so great PROVES that you are just full of lies, you want NOTHING to do with living IN the city, you won't work IN the city, you won't enter the city to "actually DO something" such as volunteering with clean-ups of neighborhoods, to help with feeding the poor, you won't even enter the city to attend a council meeting.

If McCarthief thinks he will use the casino hoopla to win another term he is a fool! The city of schenectady under McCarthy has kicked the can down the road for far to long on every capital project and has the city in financial ruins. Here are some examples:

list of debts and failures under McCarthy

* 20 million dollars on Foster Ave "Taj Mahal" Public works building
* 3 million demo loan from HUD
* shrinking property tax base
* Rising rents for renters
* glut of forelosures & homes FOR SALE (no buyers) ATF was hired by Stratton & McCarthy
* sex abuse scandal fire department
* deteriorating neighborhoods
* high crime rate
* Cruel to dogs & residents
* pot hole roads
* failing schools
* McCarthy is in bed with rich developers and billionaires (Galesi & Rush) McCarthy doesn't care for the average Schenectadian
* Botched the county sales tax agreement fired Jason Cuthbert
* highest property taxes in Capital Region

A good list for re-election-no? In today's Gazetto Peter G has announced that he is looking at the Mayor's race. City Hall desperately needs an enema after decades of
incompetent Mayors and phony baloney budgets. Schenectady needs a 20% property tax decrease before the casino opens. McCheese is hated in the neighborhoods and even Ham Hill residents are waking up that no one but Downtown elites matter to the corrupt machine. If McCheese wants to run on the casino good since it is hated by left and
right. Another just us DEM elite only fiesta. Already the 18% Election Day DEM promised cut is down to 10%. In the end taxes will go up for all the new police and social
service programs after the black hole is built. A casino helps only the promoter and has one purpose to separate you from all your money. More pie in the sky will alter the
reality on the street-murders, foreclosures, closed businesses and more tax ripoffs on the friends and family plan.

MAYOR'S RACE?

Familiar face may enter Schenectady mayor's race

Guidarelli weighs bid against McCarthy

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Gazette Reporter

SCHENECTADY — A well-known Schenectady Republican may enter the mayor’s race this year to challenge incumbent Gary McCarthy, a Democrat hot off his annual State of the City address.

Peter Guidarelli, who ran for mayor against Democrat Brian Stratton in 2003, said he is “seriously considering” seeking the Republican nomination for mayor this year and plans to make a decision “within the next month or so.”

Guidarelli, 47, said he believes the city needs to lower taxes, increase public safety, improve infrastructure and address quality-of-life issues in neighborhoods.

“There has been a lot of focus on downtown,” he said. “While that is extremely important, I believe the attention that has been needed in many of the neighborhoods has not been paid attention to. Also, the primary issue for the taxpayers is always going to be the high taxes that are paid by the residents of the city of Schenectady.”

Guidarelli, who lives in Schenectady’s Northside, is no stranger to local politics. He served on the City Council in 1994 and 1995 before moving on to the Schenectady County Legislature, where he stayed from 1996 to 2003. In 2003, he ran a tight mayor’s race but lost to Stratton. Eight years later, he threw his hat in the ring for mayor again, but he eventually withdrew before the race got started.

Guidarelli currently works part-time for the Warren, Washington and Albany counties chapter of NYSARC, a nonprofit organization that serves nearly 1,000 individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. He also owns the Villa Tuscan Grille in Rotterdam.

Schenectady has made progress over the years, Guidarelli said, but stressed that the city’s high taxes are unaffordable for the average citizen, driving people out of Schenectady and into neighboring communities.

“We should be focused on keeping Schenectady residents here,” he said. “I think equal focus needs to be paid to our neighborhoods. That is a very big issue. That is evidenced by a number of vacancies and foreclosed properties, plus the condition of the roadways. The attention should have been paid to our neighborhoods much earlier.”

Guidarelli said McCarthy is a “much different opponent” than Stratton, who stepped down as mayor in 2011 to head the state Canal Corp.

“In 2003, the challenge was that I was running against both Brian Stratton and his father, who was an iconic figure in Schenectady, and rightfully so.”

Stratton’s father, Sam, was a widely popular member of Congress from Schenectady.

Over the next month, Guidarelli said, he will discuss running for mayor with his family and consider how it would affect his professional career.

“Running for mayor is a very serious commitment that needs full dedication to be fair to the taxpayers and fair to my family,” he said.

Although he did not rule out running for mayor himself, Roger Hull said he would consider backing Guidarelli if he decided to run. That means Guidarelli could have the backing of two parties, the Republican Party and Alliance Party.

McCarthy narrowly defeated Hull, founder of the Alliance Party and former Union College president, for mayor in 2011.

Hull said if Guidarelli later decides not to run and another candidate does not step up, he would think about running again this year. But Hull said he believes Guidarelli would be a strong candidate.

“I think it is pretty clear that both he and I wouldn’t be running,” he said. “Three-way races do not work to the benefit of opposition candidates. Peter is a great person and understands politics in this community really well. That was proven when he ran for mayor once before."

Like Hull, Councilman Vince Riggi, the only non-Democrat on the City Council, said he hasn’t ruled out running for mayor but would back Guidarelli as a Republican candidate for mayor if he pursues the seat.

“He certainly knows politics, and he has been around,” said Riggi, whose council term is up this year. “I haven’t spoken with Peter about a lot of the issues that are facing the city, but of course I would support him; he belongs to the party that endorsed me. I’m a team player.”

McCarthy said on Tuesday he believes that he will seek re-election, but doesn’t plan to make a formal decision until early spring.

McCarthy delivered his 2015 State of the City address Monday night, highlighting economic development projects in downtown and the demolition of blighted homes leveraging a $3 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development loan and promoting owner-occupants in the city through his Home Ownership Made Easy in Schenectady program.

As of November, Schenectady had 38,297 registered Democrats, 25,658 Republicans and 6,003 independent voters, indicating the race would be an uphill battle for Guidarelli.

The mayor’s race also comes after one of the state’s first commercial casinos was recommended to be placed in Schenectady by the state Gaming Facility Location Board. During his State of the City address, McCarthy said a casino would be a “tremendous economic driver” for the city.

Guidarelli said because a casino is coming within two years, the city should prepare for the potential negative effects it could bring, such as increases in crime and traffic.

“We need to start planning for the future of how the casino would best fit into the city and county of Schenectady,” he said.

Guidarelli made a great point Stratton was very much popular than McCarthy is today. Neighborhoods hate McCarthy I spoke to several neighborhood groups they all said that McCarthy is too arogant and is NOT doing a great job he is out of touch with residents and more in tune with millionaires & billionaires and that they are not supporting him because of it.

Guidarelli said McCarthy is a “much different opponent” than Stratton

They all see a very weak incumbent with zero accomplishments. Every neighborhood hates McCheese and he has no base of support. Am shocked at the comments by long time DEM stalwarts in Ham Hill. Despite what Marv says another DEM could easily jump in and win the DEM primary. The casino opening in 2016 is not going to help this dithering incumbent. Peter is the only REP. Being a blank or Alliance candidate does nothing to secure a Statewide line. If Peter wants to run he has a clear path to victory with both Row A and C. Hull or Riggi could also win with a huge crossover vote of DEMS sick of the lies about jobs and phony promises of tax cuts that never materialize.

The Democratic candidate, who would most likely be Mayor McCarthy,  would be on Row A not the Republican candidate.

Peter needs to campaign for elected office to remain relevant and engaged in political circles.  His company and he make a lot of money in political consulting.

I support Vince.  He has been an engaged advocate for residents for many years.  I believe his motives to be genuine and honorable.

Peter G - Godfather of the Metroplex.  Raising sales tax to fund corporate welfare.

He should campaign to disolve Metroplex and admit it was a mistake.

Maybe....But shouldn't have Hull done that in the last election, since he is actually the one that created it?

Peter was County Chair.  Hull was a college executive.  Hull could not create Metroplex, he could only buy the politicians that created it.  Of course Hull wasn't going to campaign against it.  He wanted to have more power as mayor to steer the money to where he wanted it spent in the city.

Peter seems to only want the highest positions in government.  Why hasn't he run for city council?  Maybe he has and I forgot about it.
