New businesses generate sales tax revenue, provide jobs to people who live in and spend money in the community .. and the words "tax exempt" are misleading since many pay property tax or a p.i.l.o.t.   Also, a number of those businesses occupy buildings that were improved (increasing assessed value) or had been tax delinquent properties for years.
Bottom line -- THERE IS INTEREST IN any freebies and tax breaks at the expense of homeowners that go withSCHENECTADY PROPERTIES and the nayboobs are malicious liars seeking only to damage/hurt our community.

There are many homeowners that occupy housing in Schenectady and would otherwise be vacant.  Many would like to sell their houses now, except for the fact they would have to dump them for much less than they bought them for.  Give the residential property owners a PILOT.

Tax exempt isn't misleading, because they are exempt from the property tax law that other businesses must abide by.  Sales taxes are not paid for by the business, they are collected by the business owner and paid for by the customer.  Sales taxes do not fund the city school district.  The city of Schenectady doesn't have a sales tax, the county and state does, so it does nothing to fund the city infrastructure and services they use.

Collecting taxes does not result in collective prosperity.  In the case of Schenectady, it results in selective prosperity.  Prosperity for the rich at the expense of those paying the regressive sales taxes that fund the Metroplex, who in return give individual businesses hundreds of thousands of dollars, which the taxpayers guarantee a return to the bondholders(with interest) if the businesses fail.  So poor Schenectady residents are shouldering the risk for wealthy business owners.  I have to admit, smart entrepreneurs would find a way to make an investment into a city where their customers take all the risk if they fail.

It's worse...It's the government using the residents of Schenectady as collateral for bondholders, to give millions of dollars to SELECT private businesses.  Usually, when a city floats a bond, it's to pay for infrastructure in the municipality for all to use(sewers, streets, street lights, water tower).  This is theft.  The only people that make out are the businesses, the bondholders, and the Metroplex Administrators(and the political party they are affiliated with).  The city resident gets to go to the shiny new buildings, and pay sales taxes on what they purchase, which ultimately goes to the bondholder that is holding the debt of the businesses you are patronizing. If the Metroplex businesses failed, and the county could no longer pay the metroplex bond, the bondholders would end up with the downtown property.  The residents would get ZERO(that's why it's not an investment for residents).  It's really criminal when you think about it.

Slave on!

Of course, DV will NOT address these FACTS,.   DV has spent the past 4 yrs on these boards brown nosing, cheering for wild uncontrolled spending of the taxpayers money on the political cronies of the downtown millionaires and STILL his buddy dems will NOT give him a job.

Hmm, sales tax revenue in the county has been down.   People spend money IN the community?   On what?  Tell us DV, where do people buy clothes?  How about Colonie Center and Crossgates  and that does NOT generate revenue for Schenectady, DUH.  How DUMB are you?????????    No wonder you do not live like a normal 50 yr old adult, independent and self sufficient.  People can't even buy a NEW car IN the community of the city of Schenectady.\

And you know NOTHING about the taxes and assessment because the houses were for decades TAXPAYING properties generating revenue for the city, but the city dems caused them to become dilapidated foreclosed homes because the city dems make the poor pay the taxes of the downtown millionaires and you NEVER address that FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is interest in Schenectady properties?   Then would you care, DO YOU HAVE THE GUTS to address the FACT, the TRUTH that home sales in the city are plummeting AND the few that sell are selling at sale prices far below what the city claims the properties are worth?   Of course, we ALL know you will NOT address these truths, it's too embarrassing for a dem brown noser with so much stinky sh*t on his nose to admit that he is 1,000% wrong.

And tell us DV, how come YOU are not taking an interest in buying one of these properties?    Countless times this question is asked of you and you  NEVER respond and tell us why you are NOT buying IN the city?   Why do you ABSOUTELY REFUSE to live IN the city?   Huh???????

I guess if people believe that empty, deteriorating buildings downtown was better than they might agree with you.

So DV, you believe that empty, deteriorating buildings THROUGHOUT the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live means the city is better than 10 years ago?

So, DV, you believe that people losing their homes in great numbers, through tax foreclosures, which is the cause of the empty buildings, is better than 10 years ago, huh?

So DV, obviously the massive reduction in the city's tax base means the city is better than it was 10 years ago.

So DV, obviously the FACT that home values are falling means the city is better than 10 years ago, is that right?   Do you have the guts to answer that?

So DV, obviously the FACT that homeowners are fleeing the city in record numbers means the city is better than 10 years ago, huh?

Obviously the FACT that houses take 2  years go sell and ultimately sell at prices far far below what the city claims they will sell for, means the city is better than 10 years ago.

Guess you believe homeowners paying taxes calculated on a value far higher than their home is worth means the city is better than 10 years ago, huh?

New businesses generate sales tax revenue, provide jobs to people who live in and spend money in the community .. and the words "tax exempt" are misleading since many pay property tax or a p.i.l.o.t.   .

Let's see, it's wonderful that a wealthy property owner, over 10 years time, will pay a paltry $395,000 in a PILOT while the financially struggling  homeowners will be FORCED under threat of having their homes seized from them, to pay $1.6 MILLION of the full bill.

So, DV, the alleged Catholic, claims that poor paying $1.6 MILLION of the tax bill of a rich developer while the rich developer pays a puny $395,000 is a good thing.   The poor pay the taxes of the rich.

DV, how much sales tax is generated on a glass of beer?   Where do people go to buy a NEW car?   Where do people go to buy clothes?  Where do YOU go to buy (well, maybe YOU have no choice but to go to Simon's because you have no choice but to buy big sized clothes).  Where do people go to buy CD's/DVD's?   Where do people go to buy furniture?   Where do people go to buy a boat?  Where to people go to buy books (remember, NO ONE who is a normal independent adult can afford to pay $15 for a book at Open Door when they can go elsewhere and pay $10).  Where do people go to buy pet supplies?  Where do people go to buy hardware, tools, lawn and garden stuff?   Where do people go to buy swimming pools, swing sets?   Where do people go to buy toys for their kids?  So, answer these questions, DV, can you?

Do YOU even buy groceries IN the city????????

He is a smart cookie his locations are outside the city/county limits. Central Nissan also moved just outside (Lia Nissan) too. They pay county sales tax to Albany, and property tax to the town of Colonie. The county line cuts just west of his lots.

We all known or at least it has been said that the Constant Critic He/She Nayboob doesn't live in the City of Schenectady.  He/She doesn't actually put himself or herself out to go to council meetings or actually do anything constructive or positive to remedy the things that he/she is complaining about.  Yet he/she is chronically worried about where other people live -- even if those people are actually doing something constructive and actively engaged in trying to improve the city.
Personally, I couldn't care less where he/she or anyone else lives.  I am going to focus on doing what I have been doing .. and that is working to help my community (Rotterdam, Schenectady and the surrounding area) to be the best that it can be.

I not only BELIEVE, I KNOW that empty, deteriorating buildings downtown are preferable to the same in the neighborhoods. Speaking of empty, deteriorating buildings in neighborhoods, there is an absolutely beautiful brick house smack in the middle of Wright Avenue, the block leading up to the Central Park gates. It has been boarded up for YEARS now. What I shame.
Look what I found:

When I was a child, my Aunt Pearl, Pearl Weiss, was a glamorous figure. She was my father’s younger sister, about four years younger than Pop. She had shared his hard times during the Great Depression and before and had folded newspapers for his delivery route. But when I knew her, in the last 1940s and 1950s, she was rich. Her husband, Davey Weiss, co-owned a meat packing company in Schenectady. He made real money, sixty thousand a year or more in the 1940s, when that was a fortune.

She lived in a colonial style house on a simply beautiful street called Central Parkway in Schenectady. Pearl always was dressed dashingly, had live in help, and had a cool car. I remember in particular that she had what I recall as a sky blue Buick Skylark the first year they came out in the mid 1950s. It had leather upholstery and power window and seats… a far cry from our modest Chevrolet with its crank windows and cloth seats.

1.  One need not attend council meetings in order to "actually do" something.

2.  The most highly constructive thing one can to is to research the claims made by the mayor and city officials, and since almost all of what they say is proven to be lies  (such as the city bragging about numbers of houses "under contract" or alleged to have sold but the official deeds prove the city's LIES, such as the mayor refusal to CLEARLY tell homeowners that they will pay for the demolition a building owned by a billionaire, the FACT that the city is violating state law by refusing to publish the list of foreclosures showing the names of their tax deadbeat political cronies, the mayor's REFUSAL to inform homeowners that the city's tax base is falling, etc. etc.)  and then to disseminate the FACTS, these TRUTHS along with the EVIDENCE to the residents through various means.

3.  Then there is the doing things such as spending several days helping sort and pack and distribute Thanksgiving meals to the poor homeowners who are paying the taxes of Galesi and the rest of the downtown millionaires and cannot afford to buy their own dinner.

And DV, you do NOT actually DO anything constructive.   Since you are NOT a taxpayer, your name is NOT on the tax rolls thus you bear absolutely not the minutest responsibility for paying the taxes, and because you have not even grown into a normal self sufficient independent man yet, since you have two mommies with a combined income approaching 6 figures, then you are in a position to not have to make the decisions that adults must make---like choosing between paying for medication or paying the taxes, or having to choose between putting a new roof on your house and replacing the furnace, etc.

So your comment that you actually "DO" something really means that you actually "DO" NOTHING other than spew nonsense babble and cheer for the city to increase the taxes on the homeowners and cheer for the poor homeowners to pay the taxes of the rich political cronies.

Additionally what you "DO" is spew lies that the city is improving but NEVER provide evidence or engage in a discussion of the FACTUAL TRUTHS that are supported with evidence.   Remember your babble when you claimed that it is a "FACT" that taxes are lower than in the 1970's, but NEVER ONCE provided one teeny weeny shred of EVIDENCE  of your claim.

So, are you going to wash the bedding of the homeless?

An estimated $4.1 million in gaming revenue will be provided to the city and the county. The funding will help decrease the city’s property taxes by 10 percent in three years, according to Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy.

Would this be after a reassessment ???
