We've all seen that quaint home, haven't we? It's on the way to the park. What I mean is, people are wondering why the kids were placed with those relatives, but it wasn't the disturbed girl with custody, it was the aunt, and when you see her on tv, she doesn't come across as depraved and uncaring. Would there even have been a home visit in a situation like that?
As far as CPS goes, this is Albany County, they have the same problems we have, on steroids. Overwhelmed by using Albany as a dumping ground for undesirables from NYC, horribly high property taxes, a bunch of high-salaried employees who know somebody, driving in from their lower-taxed and crime-free communities, and driving home to them again at night. I have complained that long-time residents get shortchanged in favor of the new arrivals from downstate. Our system can't handle the people it was set up for, they can't even get the freeloaders off.
I predicted when I heard about the influx of cheap heroin, that things were going to get much, much worse, much faster.

according to law enforcement....since September.....the mother had lost custody of all her children for one reason or another...the father has custody of 2 sons

judging what has happened it seems to me that CPS was involved somewhere along the line......courts have been involved also...

I have seen the most 300K home have filth and no habitation......why????...no one questions those who live quite well.....seems that the

Hilltowns in that area are economically questioned.....

The system has failed these children as courts and CPS have been involved in some way.....and they fell in between the cracks....

All I say is that the cousin who murdered this innocent child is mentally ill....and should not be judged until the true facts are known.....

Judge, jury and God we are not........May the angels provide the safety for Kenneth and also his 4 other siblings.....

To add.....the father wants custody of  his 2 daughters....stating he only could take care of his 2 sons .....hopefully,  will not be able to

attain custody of the 2 daughters.....there are foster parents who are very loving and capable of caring for these girls..

Everyone would be doing these children a favor by not being so righteous in their judgment and believing everything you hear or read on FB...

The true story may never be told...and if it does......then we will know the answers without analyzing what is or is not....

KNOX — The mobile home that 5-year-old homicide victim Kenneth White lived in has been shuttered temporarily by the town building department after several violations were found, said Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple Sunday.

Apple had alluded before to unsafe conditions in the home at 994 Thacher Park Road, but provided more details Sunday about the residence where police allege Kenneth was choked and blundgeoned to death Thursday before his body was dumped in a snowy culvert across the road.

The sheriff said a wood burning stove in the home wasn't ventaliated properly, and was covered in duct tape and was near combustible substances. He also said there were electrical problems, and parts of the floor were in danger of collapsing. No one will be allowed to return to the home until the problems are fixed. The Knox building inspector who issued the order, Daniel Sherman, couldn't be reached for comment Sunday.

The boy lived in the tiny 250-square-foot trailer with his twin sister, four-year-old sister, aunt, another teenager, and his 19-year-old cousin Tiffany VanAlstyne, who initially told investigators that Kenneth had been kidnapped, but was then charged herself with his death.

How most immigrants that came to America lived 100 years ago.  I'm certainly not advocating the living conditions, but it isn't an anomaly in America.  

This is about a psychotic person that killed a 5 year old.  There is no rationalizing it.  There is no preventing it.  There are no living conditions that could have stopped it.  There is no government agency that could have foreseen it.

What sickens me is the local media milking this tragedy to sell newspapers and sell tv ads.  I change the channel every time they do a story on this.  It's not news anymore...It's gossip of the worst kind.

conditions...that's where the system failed.....DSS is lax on many of these types of situations......and there are others who could have foreseen this....the

parents are negligible yes.....but since the courts made them "irresponsible" then that is where this all started...

we can't change what happened....but certainly "takes a village" to raise a child , is something to think about......

The 250 sq ft claim can't possibly be true... 250 sq ft equates to a 15X15 space... The trailer looks to be at least 14X70... that's 980 sq ft...

From what I have heard between the mother and father, there are TEN total children including Kenneth... if that isn't a case for state mandated sterilization, I don't know what is... you need a license to fish in this state, but no license to procreate...

it isn't difficult for the media to gather this info and run with it since the 'family' is already running with it all over facebook!!! REALLY!!

People don't know how to figure square footage. Even on assessments and that sort of thing.
I saw the interior of the home on the news last night. Yes, it was crammed full. I really don't know what that has to do with the tragedy. I didn't know that there is a required number of smoke detectors for a private residence. Maybe I'm in violation myself.
