Thanks for the info Joe.  I owned a Remington 700,BDL 30.06 but sold it to a friend years ago.
I sent him your link on the problem.  I must have fired thousands of rounds and never had
a problem with it.

Not sure about all the triggers but the 700P had a adjustable trigger right from the factory, to this day it was one of the nicest triggers I ever used, even better then the aftermarket Timney trigger I used on my other 700, it broke nice and crisp at around 2 1/2 pounds and like box never had a problem with it. But hey I'm glad they're fixing this issue others seem to have. Seems the guns were going off when the safety was switched to fire without touching the trigger, most of the deaths still should have been avoidable by using the 1st rule of gun safety which is "the gun is always loaded, never point it in the direction of anything you don't want destroyed"

I love the news story that starts out with a picture of a big bad scary gun that is not even included in the recall. That picture is of the 1911R1 not the rifles listed in this story. But I have to say it is sad that this could have been avoided if Remington listened to the designer of the trigger 70 years ago, and authorized a $.05 change to a product that could have save dozens of lives and save 100's from injuries. Corporate greed and stupidity at its best.

Oh and my 700 has a ribbed trigger so I will be discharging my weapon purposely not accidentally.

And as Henry mentioned
The Ten Commandments of Firearms Safety

1. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
2. Firearms should be unloaded when not actually in use.
3. Don't rely on your gun's safety.
4. Be sure of your target and what's beyond it.
5. Use proper ammunition.
6. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, handle with care.
7. Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting.
8. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting.
9. Don't alter or modify your gun and have it serviced regularly.
10. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you are using.
