Home values falling, can you explain how this means the city is improving?
Home sales falling, does that mean the city is improving?
Home sale prices falling, how does that mean the city is improving?
More people putting up their homes for sale in order to flee the city, is that an indicator of a city that is improving?
Houses (often very beautiful, highly desirable) take a year, two years, three years to sell, DV, are you really going to say that's an indication that is improving?
Record high numbers of vacant residential units (because bother owners AND renters have fled, does that mean the city is improving?
Taxes increasing along with services decreasing or eliminated, how is that an indicator of an improving city?
Homeowners having to pay their own taxes PLUS the taxes of politically connected millionaires, under threat from the city that their home will be seized for non payment of taxes, does that mean the city is improving?
A multibillion dollar company REFUSES to demolish a building it owns at its own expense -- that's an indication of a city that is improving? Homeowners can't afford to make their own repairs but they have to pay for the demolition of a billionaire's building, that's an improvement?
Neighborhoods where the taxpayers live are ignored, but downtown where the millionaires are are taken care of tax taxpayer expenses is an improvement in the city? DV, would you care to explain how low income people paying for the rich is a good thing?
Taxpayer funded gin mills is an improvement when taxpayers lose their homes, unable to pay for the gin mills
A city that allows it's politically connected tax deadbeats keep their houses rather than being foreclosed upon is an indicator of a city that is improving? Increasing the taxes on the struggling homeowner to make them pay for the delinquent taxes of the deadbeat politically connected, is that an improvement?
Naturally, we all know that you will NOT list things that are improving (because you can't find anything that is), you will NOT address the ever falling tax base, the falling home sales and prices, the poor paying for the rich politically connected, the increasing taxes and decreasing services.
You claim the city is improving but you won't even go to church IN the city anymore, won't even put your pinky toe IN the city.

The delinquency rate decreased two basis points from the previous quarter, and 70 basis points from one year ago, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) National Delinquency Survey. The delinquency rate includes loans that are at least one payment past due but does not include loans in the process of foreclosure. The percentage of loans in the foreclosure process at the end of the fourth quarter was 2.86 percent, down 22 basis points from the third quarter and 88 basis points lower than one year ago. This was the lowest foreclosure inventory rate seen since 2008.
The non-seasonally adjusted percentage of loans on which foreclosure actions were started during the fourth quarter decreased to 0.54 percent from 0.61 percent, a decrease of sevenbasis points, and the lowest level since 2006.
The serious delinquency rate, the percentage of loans that are 90 days or more past due or in the process of foreclosure, was 5.41 percent, a decrease of 24 basis points from last quarter, and a decrease of 137 basis points from the fourth quarter of last year.
Yes, just a couple stories, but those are mortgage foreclosure. It's the TAX FORECLOSURE that the issue. But more importantly it's the reason that the tax foreclosures in Schenectady are so high. Homeowners are being forced to pay for downtown and in doing so, they are NOT getting ANYTHING in return. Paying for the new buildings downtown, paying the property taxes of downtown is doing NOTHING for the homeowners but causing taxes to rise, services to fall, tax base to fall, and houses won't even sell. If people lost homes to tax foreclosure because of increase in taxes to pay for snow plowing and trash collection services, that would be one thing. But people are losing their homes due to paying the taxes of politically connected millionaires to give kickbacks the city/co/plex leaders. AND people are losing their homes due to paying taxes of people like Joe Allen, the metroplex architect Gilmore and his wife (who also LIED and were double dippers on STAR), the Proctor's employee (who also got tax money for his no-interest mortgage that he has not paid) etc.

You mean like letting Amtrak and Conrail figure out who is going to fix the and/or replace the Oak Street bridge, which WAS a main connector between Mt Pleasant and Bellevue? That engineering report was supposed to be due by now... McCarthy should be DEMANDING that the results be released.
You can bet your life if this bridge connected ANY part of downtown it would been fixed or replaced months or years ago...Just a glaring example of how any part of the city outside of downtown gets absolute sh!t from cityhall.

my point is that it is the GOVERNMENT (local or otherwise) has 'created' this mess. And it isn't a dem or rep issue...cause the outcome would have been the same. there is clearly enough blame to go around. First and foremost....the exit of Generous Electric was the beginning of the fall. Second...the powers that be thought they could remedy the situation and obviously failed miserably.
Our local government, like the federal government are spending w-a-y above their means, with OUR money.

Churches, schools, non profits, food pantries are feeding and clothing thousands(through donations)....and good for them!

I don't doubt that you want anything but good things for the city, but having a parish and having an office in the city is not the same as having you children less than a block away from the scene of what is, in reality, a drive-by shooting. It is not the same as having bullet holes in your neighbors house.
Positive wishes and hoping things improve is not good enough anymore. That will not keep my children safe.
I don't care what the government does anymore to try to fix these issues. My spouse and I have decided that we will be leaving the city of Schenectady come hell or high water. Worrying about it hurting us financially is no longer a priority. The safety of our children is.
