Two cities in the Capital Region have landed on a list of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the state.
Schenectady came in at number 2 and Albany at number 8 on the list created by http://www.mylife.com, a social media website. The rankings were based on five factors: the number of law enforcement officers, violent crime rates, property crime rates, the number of registered sex offenders, and the percentage of the population enrolled in health care.
According to the site, Schenectady ranked fourth in sex offender occurrences and sixth in violent crime. Albany ranked ninth in violent crime and tenth in property crime.
Not far from the state capitol, Schenectady has one of the highest crime rates of any city in the area, a problem some have attributed to poverty and dispossessed youth. But a group known as Stand Up Guys are putting in effort to curb domestic violence. The city ranked fourth in sex offender occurrences, and sixth in violent crime.

I don't have much faith in a study that doesn't include Troy, which has I believe, the highest per capita murder rate in the state. Schenectady has one of the lowest.

I just looked at the link now. Had heard it on TV, but the news merely said "mylife" and like I said, many websites when they refer to a city, town, etc, are people sitting somewhere else in the world and have no clue about geographic boundaries.
