Mortgage holders usually allow you to take your taxes out of escrow when you pay down 20% of the principle. Maybe some do not anymore.
YUP...and some find it convenient to continue with the escrow to be sure funds are there. I believe VA loans require escrow for life of loan, but not sure, because I don't have VA loan... House will be paid off in 2 months, so I'm setting up interest bearing personal escrow type account for taxes.
