Yes - the "more to the issue" is this -- #1) if you want the Conservative Party nomination for public office anywhere in the county than you can't support residency requirements for employees in the police departments and sheriff's department, and #2) if you want the Independence Party nomination for public office anywhere in the county than you can't support residency requirements for employees in the fire department, and #3) if you want the Working Families Party nomination for public office anywhere in the county than you can't support residency requirements for the spouses of people who are employed in the areas listed in #1 and #2.
That is pretty much how the system "works."

Yes, I hear myself. Most of our public employees work very hard and do SERVE the community. I reiterate that they should be legally compelled to live in the community that employs them.

If you are employed by Rotterdam, you should live there, not Princetown, Guilderland, Glenville or even the City of Schenectady.
One simple rule would result in thousands of new local taxpayers, or thousands of newly available jobs for local residents.
But GE is a private company. Government employees are different because as taxpayers WE are the ones paying them. We can CHOOSE not to buy things made by GE and any company. if we don't like their policies, their employment practices, etc.

The guys that actually do the work are the only ones enforced. Guess you have to do the most (Labor) work to make the least to be controlled the most. Once you get a pen in your hand, sit at a desk, or play at city hall your allowed to break the rules. Its funny how more than half the guys rent down at the BOS, so lets see how that increases the tax income. I always hear " You buy your food, eat out, etc" but no one shops in schenectady, they prefer to go across the river or over balltown.

We also know a city cop who had to also live in the city before he was hired and bought a multifamily house that he actually lived in for 1 year....then 'could' move anywhere...and did.
