DV keep your mouth closed and get a shovel and start digging....you seem to know so much but have worked little......it's easy to get info from

a book, newspaper....internet......your comments are from MARS....

But unable to find anything from a book, newspaper, .....internet that provides one teeny weeny shred of evidence that the downtown focus is helping anything in the city other than making millionaires and billionaires richer

LOL   It's not really that far fetched idea

Actually it is. Especially if you're telling me that these people are all sitting around gleefully rubbing their hands together conspiring to rob everyone blind. To what end? And what happens when they've robbed everyone blind? What then? Do they pick up and move on to the next plum ripe for picking? Yeah, I'm really going to believe that scenario.

If you really do believe that, then God Bless You for having such an imagination. You should be writing children's books.

I honestly believe that everyone involved has good intentions. It's the execution of those intentions that's short sighted and pretty much sucks.

There is absolutely NO such thing as a "permanent" tax exemption.  The person who keeps posting that either a) knows better and is lying  or b) doesn't know better and should do some homework.  Either way, the constant negative comments about others only proves that the poster (he/she) has an ax to grind and is not being objective in his/her comments.

Everyone has good intentions????    Really?????    Tax the poor homeowners and give the money to millionaires and billionaires downtown and then when the homeowners can't pay the taxes what happens?     They lose their homes.   How are those good intentions???

10 years of wild uncontrolled spending on downtown.   Good intentions?

What have the good intentions done for the tax base in the city?

What have the good intentions done for property values in the city?

What have the good intentions done to attract people to remain in the city and not put their homes up for sale and flee?

What have the good intentions done to attract people to buy homes IN the city?

What have the good intentions done to home sales IN the city.

What have the good intentions done to home sale prices IN the city?

What have the good intentions done repave streets in the NEIGHBORHOODS where the TAXPAYERS LIVE?

Spending $300,000 of taxpayer money to try to sell houses IN the city and then when homes are NOT selling, then increase the theft from the taxpayers by 70% to spend a whopping HALF MILLION dollars to try to attract people to sell houses in the city - what have those ALLEGED good intentions of wild uncontrolled spending of taxpayer money done help home sales IN the city?

What have the good intentions of WILDLY SPENDING the taxpayers money done for the tax BILLS of financially struggling homeowners?????

what have these good intentions done to the numbers of tax foreclosures IN the city?

What have these good intentions done to eliminate blight in the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live?

What have these good intentions done to stop reducing essential vital services TO THE TAXPAYERS/HOMEOWNERS in THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS OUTSIDE of downtown?

These good intentions have done one thing only - taxed the financially struggling homeowners (under threat of the city seizing their homes) and gave the taxpayers' money to the millionaires and billionaires downtown.

The alleged good intentions you speak of are allowing the rich to laugh all the way to the bank.

And how about the guy who took the taxpayers' money for a brand new fancy schmancy building, get exempt from paying property and school taxes and he decides he's also going to STEAL from the taxpayers by becoming a TAX DEADBEAT????

Read my whole statement before going into one of your ignorant rants. If you're telling me the people involved are intentionally, and gleefully bringing the city down, then you're a bigger fool than I had you pegged for.

unfortunately people with good intentions for investment are placing a value label on everyone....

casino, good intention? $15/hour worth the intention?
DSS building, good intention? moving it to 'clean' downtown?
bombers, good intention? waiting tables a career?

I'm just saying that all those with the $$$ are placing 'acceptable value' on the jobs created....the value is based on THEIR OWN
BOTTOM LINE and their mansions......

which is fine because this is America, but they need to pay their part of the TAX LEVY.....

remember, it's ALWAYS ABOUT THE LEVY AND THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE REVENUE COLLECTED THROUGH TAXES......

HOW MUCH ARE THE SERVICES WORTH? to both homeowners that make $15/hour(you can't purchase a home on that salary)
and the businesses that cap the wages?

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I agree, the decline of the city is collateral damage, not the intent.

It's fall out from corporate welfare,  consisting of loans, grants and tax exemptions, along with egotistical spending on outlandish projects while the city is barely afloat, drowning in property seizures, while giving properties away to hand picked chosen people.

The lavish spending downtown only serves to show more "contrast" between downtown and the rest of the city.

The perps, acting in their own interest, use denial and self delusion to justify their intent, and the associated collateral damage.

I mean, if all persons are performing things they consider good for the city, how could the overall result not be good?

Well the overall result isn't good.

Because quite simply, the collateral damage outweighs the good intentions.

Sure, downtown looks great.

Bit it is totally surrounded by Van Vranken Ave, lower Eastern Ave, the top of State St hill, Albany St and Hamilton Hill, Crane St and Lower Broadway/Broadway Hill.

Downtown is surrounded by declining and near failing neighborhoods in all directions the run most of the way to the ends of the city limits.

There are some decent areas left, but the cycle of overtaxing and seizures will soon be nibbling them away too.

I pretty much agree with all of that.  I guess I just take issue with the idea this was all intended to suck taxpayers dry. And just let me reiterate something I've mentioned on these pages before. I've been around (nearly 8 decades) long enough to have seen plenty of development start and decline. It's always well intended, with the hopes that everyone prospers. It just doesn't ever seem to work.

Are the taxpayers taking a beating? You bet they are, but that doesn't mean the politicians and developers don't care and are trying to rob you blind. They just haven't done a good job on their end to make good things happen for everyone.

So what's the answer? Do you want to kick everybody out and start over? Again? Trying to figure out how to make both the businessmen AND homeowners happy? The person who can figure that out should be running the whole shebang. Where is John Galt?
