and what makes you think it would be any different under rep rule?
ge would threaten to leave 100%...and the reps would cave too!!!!!
come on now!!

Look and see what the tax exemption and tax incentives Global Foundries got...and that was Saratoga!!!

I'm not agreeing with any of it....but don't be fooled into thinking this is just a dem thingy....k?

And home values are up in the Global area, homes are selling, people are getting a return.

We don't know if the reps in Schenectady would have exempted GE from taxes.

And in the Schalmont school district, with school tax rate of about $20, that means the homeowners in Schalmont over the next 10 years--without any tax increase (which is hardly likely) will pay $26 MILLION in school taxes for the MULTIBILLION company.

And that minimum of $26 MILLLION is SCHOOL TAXES only !!!!!!!!      There are town taxes AND county taxes as well.

In the city of Schenectady with the CURRENT combined tax rate of about $43.50 assuming no tax increases whatsoever in the next 10 years (obviously unlikely), the people with these incomes of $40,000 a year will pay $28 MILLION for GE's taxes.

Now, ADD to that the total value of properties of all those downtown millionaires, well, all I have to say is HOW is the city going to survive?   Even the rich in the GE plot will be abandoning their houses.

And i'm sure that has absolutely nothing to do with the Teacher's unions/lifetime benefits. In case you didn't know....when they retire and collect social security (this includes bus drivers/janitors etch) they get reimbursed for their medicare payment....AND....their spouse gets full medical benefits even if the spouse never worked at the school....AND....they only pay 7% toward their medical cost!!!! The taxpayer shoulders the rest!!!!!!!!

when was the last time anyone went to a school board meeting????

just sayin'

We don't live in Schalmont.

However, if teachers got not a penny raise in the next ten years, and not one penny increase in taxes, the homeowners in Schalmont will pay $26 MILION to cover the tax bill of the MULTI-BILLION GE Company

The two biggest problems in our community are a) the constant negativity - those who ALWAYS complain about EVERYTHING  .. they can never find anything positive or good to say, and b) those who refuse to vote and tell others to do the same.

The other problems in our community - vacant buildings, obsolete & aging housing, aging infrastructure, need for more jobs -- those problems can all be fixed.

Unfortunately, getting rid of the negativity and apathy is much more difficult -- and is the most TOXIC problem facing our community.

The 2 biggest problems are taxing and spending.

Tax and spend policies caused the negativity and the vacant houses.

The TOXIC problem is the taxes.

Yelling at, and belittling your victims is ignorance.

Crime, theft, falling tax base, garbage on the streets, gunfire, foreclosures, taxpayers fleeing;

but you figure negativity and complaining are the 2 biggest problems in the community.

Well, everyone has to have priorities.

You forgot to add failing school district to that list.

You intentionally and DECEITFULLY left out the part where I mentioned the other problems which are being addressed.

You intentionally and DECEITFULLY left out the part where I said that negativity and CONSTANT complaining are the 2 biggest problems because they are the most difficult to change.

But the teachers/janitors/bus drivers/admins WILL get their raises.
And while the taxpayer is struggling to pay their own medical/pension/medicare....they will also be struggling to pay the school districts employees AND their spouses!!!!! AND THAT'S IN EVREY SCHOOL DISTRICT!!

so again.............what politician/political party are you going to support? The one that makes Generous Electric pay more in taxes? Good luck! It ain't a dem thing!!!

Why is the GE in the City and Rotterdam Fully tax Exempt while the GE in Niskayuna is almost Fully Taxable?  The County is sucking us dry and running the show.

The WHY doesn't matter....it's how are you going to change it?
So....again.....what politician/political party is going to reverse Generous Electric's tax exemption status?
Get behind that candidate/party and support them!

I like you am also waiting for an explanation of how change will be brought about. It's very easy to play a blame game and point fingers. When someone comes up with an answer I'll be first in line to lend my support.

Me too!!
Go to the rep/con/ind/green...whatever party and ask them if they are going to support a candidate that is going to abolish the METROPLEX/GILLEN....reverse ALL tax incentives......negotiate union contracts that would benefit the taxpayers.....etc.....

If you abolish all tax incentives....you will be labeled 'anti-business'....and they WILL move out! So pick your poison.

OBVIOUSLY....we all recognize the corruption....but their aint a politician (present or future) that will EVER win an election with this platform!

So it is time (overtime) to stop bashing and pointing fingers and try doing something to change things(if that's even possible)....OR.....move out!!

Exactly.    DV has this wild imagination that if people stop complaining that the tax base will magically increase.   He has this wild imagination that if people just stop complaining and go rob banks to pay their taxes AND the taxes of Galesi, Paul Mitchell, MARCELLA THE TAX DEADBEAT, Mallozzi's, Proctors, etc, that everything is going to be oh so wonderful in the city.

but four years on these board and he won't come ANYWHERE NEAR the city to live IN it -- won't even remotely consider buying a house - but refuses to actually post here and state that the reason he won't buy is that it is a great financial LOSS to buy a home IN the city and taxes are way too high while essential city services are being eliminated.    And renting IN the city - not on your life, not when the landlords have to keep raising the rent in order to pay the higher taxes.  Not to mention, he might end up having the city as his landlord when the homeowner loses the house because of being unable to pay the taxes because DV is not adult enough to support himself.   You know, in 34 years he has failed to launch.
