There is a glut of houses in the city.   They are aging and obsolete.

And NO ONE WANTS TO BUY THEM!!!!!!!!

How about tearing them down

LOOK how many houses, above, are for sale on Waverly Place, no one wants to buy them.   There is a glut of houses for sale on Waverly Place.  Oh heck, all of the houses on Waverly are aging and obsolete.   Just demolish the whole street.

Geez, might as well demolish all of Ardsley Place too, ya think?

Lots more aging and obsolete houses.   TEAR THEM DOWN

Woefully outdated.   After paying the taxes on the billionaires, the homeowners have NO MONEY to update their homes.   Tear it down.

Oh my heavens!   This was probably rented to Union College students.   It's much to old for this city.   No one wants to buy a house IN the city.  Look at the price reduction!   Lack of students from the college is causing some landlord to have to sell and the landlord is losing money, and the taxes are so high no one wants to buy it.  Tear it down.  What is one more vacant property going to do for the city but cause the neighboring properties to lose value  Better it's an empty lot

Alright, here's a house close to 300 years old.   One of the most aged and obsolete houses in the city for sure.   Hey, NO ONE wants to buy this piece of history for $164,500.  On the market for almost four years.  NO ONE wants to buy it
TEAR IT DOWN PRONTO!!

Probably best the whole city be demolished

These assessments are beyond ridiculous, as are the taxes. Most of the houses on here literally will sell for half their assessment.

Actually I wanted to say

What will come first?  A willing buyer or a city tax foreclosure?

What a shame some of those houses even though "old" are beautiful. But if someone is going to want a nice house, they will buy out of the city
because escrow added to the mortgage payment would be through the roof.

WHAT A SHAME!!! These homes are still beautiful!! If these homes were in Saratoga........they would sell....and for much more!!
It would be a shame to tear these down....but it certainly looks like they are NOT selling.

because escrow added to the mortgage payment would be through the roof.

And the thing is that some banks don't require escrow to be part of the mortgage payment.   But when you buy a house in the DEM led city and the taxes are $7,000 a year, you STILL have to put aside that money every month, in other words, you really need to open up a special bank account into which YOU will make a deposit each and every month in which to put the money for taxes.  So perhaps you found this house that your monthly mortgage payment is $400 per month (which would be a mortgage for about $80,000 at 4.5% for 30 years) but if your taxes are $7,000 a year, you plan to have that money available at tax time and logically that means you must $585 away each month.

So basically what is the difference between you sending your mortgage bank almost $1,000 a month OR you sending your mortgage bank $400 a month and you depositing almost $600 per month into your own personal bank to cover the tax bill.

Their really is no difference between the two methods.  If you pay taxes into escrow as part of a mortgage payment, you DO earn interest on escrow.  If you deposit money into your own personal bank account where you personally earmark that money for the taxes, you earn interest.   In both cases, that interest is reportable to the IRS as income.   If you pay taxes through escrow, the mortgage bank performs an annual escrow analysis and increases in taxes will result in you having an annual shortgage to your escrow so you'll have your escrow increased for the projected shortage for next year (but then next year you have yet another shortage because in the city DEMS always increase taxes).   But if your taxes are not escrowed, you MUST put money each and every month into your personal special bank account and for that too, you MUST increase the deposit each and every year because otherwise you WILL have a shortage because the city dems know ONLY one thing - hike the taxes on the homeowners making them pay the taxes for the downtown millionaires

Sure, remember Union college has been around since the late 1700's.  So people built homes to rent to students.   Very well built houses, far better quality than anything DV thinks is good.  So as some of them have many bedrooms because they were intended to be rentals for the college, DV, who claims to have an interest in history, claims these manificent houses are obsolete.  Naturally since the city dems have forced such high taxes, it's obvious NO ONE can afford to convert these houses to one family houses.  So the dem cheerleader would prefer all these magnificent buildings be torn down.   But then, that would help him brown nose more for the homeowners in the city having to pay more taxes to millionaire and billionaire developers because he is just spending all his energy trying to get the dems to give him a cushy high paying no-show job.   ROFL
