There has been very little discussion in the past 5 or so years on this forum.  Nayboobs whine, Someone disagrees with the Nayboobs -- the Nayboobs attack the person who disagrees.  Same old sh*t - just a different day.

There is nothing wrong with a new marquee on Proctor's.  There is nothing wrong with 98% of the improvements that have been made in the city and the county --- yet, you folks whine and complain .. and otherwise find some way to put it down.

Improvements?    What improvements??????    Abandoned houses?   Falling home values?    Falling tax base?    Increased taxes?     Money stolen from the homeowners and given to the millionaires cronies of the mayor and council in return for obvious kickbacks (must be kickbacks---why else would the mayor and company hike taxes on financially struggling homeowners in order to exempt the millionaires from paying taxes?   Why else would the mayor and co take from the poor and give to the rich?)

A building on the national register of historic places is going to eliminate a historic marquee in favor of a cheapo Vegas style sign.   How a modern digital Vegas style sign historic????????

?..we are discussing the new marquee...how about instead of "whining about others" join the party and be part of the conversation!

edited to add

So, a historic marquee on a historic building listed on the national register is going to be removed for a modern digital vegas style sign and we should not complain.

City tax base falls massively, we should not complain

Property values falling massively, we should not complalin

Home sales fall, we should not complain

Home sale prices fall, we should not complain

Taxes go up, we should not complain

City abandons the neighborhoods and we should not complain

Essential city services eliminated, and we should not complain

People unable to sell their houses, even after two years, because no one wants to move into the city, and we should not complain

2,000 zombie houses in the city and we should not complain

City taxes homeowners so high that they can't afford the taxes and they lose their homes and we should not complain

Long time taxpaying businesses close because they can't compete with the tax exempt businesses and we should not complain.

Record high number of vacant residential units in the city because no one wants to move into the city, and we should not complain.

Massive increase in abandoned, burned-out and/or boarded up houses in the city and we should not complain

CEO of Proctors forces volunteers to pay to volunteer and we should not complalin.

CEO of Proctors LIES on an official government document in order to steal from the taxpayers and we should not complalin.

Mayor's choice for the board of assessment and her husband LIE on an official government document regarding property assessment in order to steal from the taxpayers and we should not complain.

We try to improve the community by insuring that all people know how the city/co/plex leadership is stealing from the taxpayers, spending wildly on non-essentials, and causing the city to quickly become a ghost town, but YOU claim that is "complaining."

What do YOU do, DV, in an effort to improve the community???????   Keep shaking those pom poms and praising the city for stealing from the poor to give to the rich?

Sure, you can keep on shaking those pom poms, you aren't paying taxes and you never will, you don't have to be concerned

i disagree as sometimes and in this case for sure the old sign is better...AFTER all the money on period interior renovating and to then put up a neon sign like it was a mcdonalds...takes the historic right out IMHO

edited to add : ive been reading here a long time so im not uninformed...probably for over 4 years...i posted on and liked pat'zs schenectady board better though

The sign that is being replaced is NOT the original sign.  In fact, the new sign will look more like the original sign AND be digital.  So one can say that it is actually bringing the facade closer to it original or historic look.

Of course, the big (in more ways than one) cheerleader for the THEFT from the taxpayers via wild uncontrolled spending on downtown would of course cheer for the WASTING of taxpayer money to put up a NON-HISTORIC Las Vegas style sign on a historic building.

Take a building on the national register of historic places and use taxpayer money to put up a NON HISORIC marquee.

Just so the taxpayer paid King Phillip, selfish and cheap that he is, doesn't have to pay a person to change the sings.   The CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP King Phillip who  doesn't have the common decency t6o provide service to the POOR of the city in exchange for his "not-for-profit" status (but he gets a quarter of a million dollar salary by theft from the taxpayers.

One of nice things about Schenectady's RENAISSANCE is how bright and vibrant State Downtown looks.  That positive energy is brightening the whole  City-County.

The marquee looks similar in style to the one already installed at the Palace Theater in Albany...nothing ground breaking here
