State Police have just confirmed that a man driving at a high rate of speed on I-81 in Broome County, New York DELIBERATELY crossed lanes and ran down a State Trooper who was standing on the side of the road conducting a traffic stop. The trooper, 42 year old Christopher Skinner, was killed instantly. The driver, a 60 year old from Florida, kept going, then ditched his car and ran into the woods. Police have arrested him and he'll face FIRST DEGREE Murder Charges, meaning he meant to cause this person's death. Police say he was not drunk or high on drugs. he told them he meant to do what he did. He had side-swiped a couple of cars on I-81, saw the trooper up ahead and crossed lanes to hit him on purpose. Trooper Skinner is survived by a fiance' and two children. Much more on this sad story at 6 on News10 and tonight at 10pm on Fox23.

Must of been one of those carhuggers, blame the DMV for giving out licenses to anyone.

A tragedy indeed, one that could have been avoided if we had some "common sense car laws", why does any civilian need a car that can go over 65mph. This car was probably purchased at a car show where anyone with the money could walk right in and come out with the fastest car on the market, a loophole which needs to be closed.

This is certainly a tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers should be with the trooper's fiancee, children and other family left behind. This wasn't just an accident -- the driver intentionally crossed lanes of traffic to hit the trooper.

See RP? Some on this board consider this a tragedy... for some much less so. Some seem to consider this 'tragedy' no more than a chance to promote their political agenda.
The trooper was doing his job when he was killed... not an accident but killed on purpose. He has a family, he has friends and he had people who cared about him. I would guess that some on this board actually smiled when they heard of his death.

An absolute tragedy caused by a nut....His instrument of death in this case was his car. Once an unstable person decides to do something like this, they WILL find a way, with anything at their disposal...

There should be a kill switch in all vehicles. Law enforcement should be able to remotely shut down any vehicle on the public roads in the name of public safety and to prevent these tragedies.

See what I mean? The death of this trooper means nothing except an opportunity for sarcasm.
These same posters will dial 911 and expect NY's troopers to come to their rescue... and the troopers will.

A Florida man accused of intentionally swerving to hit and kill a New York state trooper blames a supernatural event.
Almond Upton, of Melrose, Florida, was charged with first-degree murder Thursday in the death of 42-year-old Trooper Christopher Skinner.
Police said the 60-year-old Upton left his lane on northbound Interstate 81 and struck the trooper, who was on the shoulder after stopping a car for speeding, with his Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.
Upton told reporters after his arraignment in Chenango, New York, that he was not sure how he ended up in that part of the state.
“I was two miles away from the Connecticut border, and all of a sudden I’m in Binghamton, New York, being beamed to New York,” Upton said.
“The cop that got killed, I don’t know how it happened — there had to be a time warp,” he continued. “Honestly, I’m not bullsh-tting. I have proof in Connecticut. It’s a time warp or something had to happen.”
State police said they don’t believe Upton was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
