Authorities shot and killed a "Sovereign Citizen" Friday morning outside a Georgia courthouse after he brought weapons and explosives in an attempt to take over the building.
Investigators said Dennis Marx arrived at the Forsyth County Administration Building with an assault rifle, bulletproof vest, smoke grenades, and a gas mask. Marx also brought water and other supplies, ammunition, zip-tie restraints, and buckets of homemade explosives to the courthouse, said Sheriff Duane Piper. “He came here with the purpose of occupying the courthouse,” Piper said. He deployed stop sticks at the courthouse entrance to prevent other vehicles from driving closer and opened fire from his vehicle.
Marx was met outside the courthouse by a deputy – who distracted and then fatally shot him through the windshield of the man’s SUV. The deputy, a 30-year veteran, was shot in the knee during the confrontation but was expected to recover. “It would be a guess to think how many lives he saved had he not engaged him right there,” Piper said. “Mr. Marx’s intention was to get inside that front door and to take hostages.” Investigators said the 48-year-old Marx was a “Soverign Citizen" who was well known to local authorities.

Remember when the right-wing collectively freaked out over a Department of Homeland Security report that warned about right-wing extremist groups recruiting returning veterans? I know I do but don’t bother asking them about it, they won’t recall it ever happened. Why? Because pretty much everything that report predicted has come to pass:

And lo and behold, the number of right-wing militias has exploded. The amount of politically motivated violence has gone up and guess which side of the political divide is responsible for almost all of it? Hint: not the side that watches Rachel Maddow. The Bundy Ranch clown posse fits very comfortably inside the report’s predictions and, of course, there’s the part about recruiting veterans that the right lied about.
You see, the report clearly stated that returning vets were a prime target for recruitment because of their background and training. Who wouldn’t want to get their hands on that kind of military experience if you’re trying to prepare a group to fight a “patriotic” war against the United States? Knowing full well that this was going to happen and how bad it would look for the conservative movement, the right had a suspiciously well-coordinated ragegasm. Suddenly, the report wasn’t saying that extremist groups would target vets, it said vets were all potential traitors and terrorists!
PATRIOTIC, TROOP LOVING OUTRAGE ensued and the DHS backed down like a whipped dog. They even cut funding to the unit tasked with tracking domestic terrorism. It was quite the scalp on the wall of the right wing. Now, though, we’re supposed to forget that ever happened even as the KKK has started passing out fliers at a military base:

According to The Army Times, photos of recruitment fliers were discovered by someone claiming to be a paratrooper at Fort Carson, who posted them to Reddit on Tuesday.

Major Jeff Cotner of the Crimes Against Persons Division said Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel responding to a trash-bin fire at Frankford and North 40th Place were fired on when a man armed with a rifle lured them into an open area. The truck was shot at least twice before they were able to drive to a wooded area and call for back up, he said.
When police arrived, the man shot at them. Officers retreated, and when they tried to tactfully approach the man, he shot at them again, Cotner said.
Police also learned that the gunman had threatened a babysitter, who retreated into a nearby home and hid in a safe place with an 8-year-old girl.
After the suspect surrendered to SWAT, they had to clear the scene of suspicious devices like propane tanks and jars filled with water that had been placed outside the home before rescuing the woman and child, Cotner said. Some of the devices had been exploded.
The as yet unidentified man reportedly called 911 and claimed to be part of the Sovereign Citizens movement, a radicalized far right group that does not recognize the United States government as a legitimate organization. The movement considers the standoff at the Bundy Ranch to be an enormous victory over the federal government and a rallying cry for violent insurrection.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Pennsylvania man was arrested Friday morning after the SUV he was driving — with 30 live chickens and “altered fireworks” inside — wrecked on Interstate 79, shutting down the highway for several hours.
Seth Grim, 21, was driving a Ford Explorer south on I-79 at about 3:30 a.m. when he flipped the vehicle between the Wallback and Amma exits, according to the West Virginia State Police.
State Police Spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous said the driver was on the run from authorities in Pennsylvania.
Baylous said the Explorer was carrying improvised explosive devices, a large amount of ammunition and two AK-47-style rifles, and that troopers found marijuana in the vehicle.
He described the explosive devices as “altered fireworks” but did not know what kind of fireworks they were or how they had been altered.
Baylous said the incident apparently occurred when a dog that was in the vehicle tried to jump out a window.
Grim was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. Baylous said officials with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were contacted. He said other state or federal charges are pending.
Grim survived the accident, unfortunately his dog didn't. Grim told police he is a “sovereign citizen.” Members of the sovereign citizen movement generally try to reject taxation and local, state and federal laws. According to a report this year from the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, “sovereign citizen” groups were the largest perceived terrorist threat among American law enforcement agencies. -

The citizen in "Sovereign Citizen" means you are a member of a state. The label is an oxymoron. You can't be a sovereign citizen unless you renounce your citizenship. Illegal immigrants are more sovereign than these so-called sovereign citizens.

A new intelligence assessment, circulated by the Department of Homeland Security this month focuses on the domestic terror threat from right-wing sovereign citizen extremists and comes as the Obama administration holds a White House conference to focus efforts to fight violent extremism.
Some federal and local law enforcement groups view the domestic terror threat from sovereign citizen as equal to -- and in some cases greater than -- the threat from foreign Islamic terror groups, such as ISIS, that garner more public attention.
The Homeland Security report, produced in coordination with the FBI, counts 24 violent sovereign citizen-related attacks across the U.S. since 2010
