La Mexicana, next to Stewarts up by Blue Ribbon. good stuff, pretty cheap. Don't really know where they "source" their food, and I don't care. "Sourcing" seems to be a big deal among the many food connoisseurs on the Mex Radio blogs. To each his own.

Heard good things about that place, though I haven't tried it yet.

I tried El Charro on route 7 last week, it was pretty darn good, FREE Salsa lol, strong drinks and reasonable prices.

The ONLY place to get the REAL DEAL is in Mexico .... Texas is the ONLY state in the USA to go to get Mexican food on THIS side of the border.  Case closed.

I would not doubt that.


But for the taxpayers to largely pay for Mexican Radio downtown, AND the taxpayers have to pay the property taxes on the place AND $1.00 for ONE nacho chip, high prices and poor service.   Yeah, screw the taxpayers AGAIN

Actually I've had great authentic Mexican food in Santa Ana CA and Athens GA. Owned and operated by immigrants that keep the food authentic.  

Tucson Az... in older downtown of that city....has "authentic" Mexican food......and the Mariachi band to boot....that's the right ambiance for Mexican food..

I agree.  There are some places outside of Texas to have good Mexican food. I have never been to Santa Ana or Athens.  
Driving on our way back from vacation earlier this week, we did actually find some good Mexican food in Albany, GA.  I wouldn't say it was the very best --- more an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.   But it was surprising since the place didn't advertise itself as Mexican .. it had a variety of offerings .. wasn't a chain or the fanciest of places to eat.  Just good solid cooking at a a "mom and pop" type place.

Oh -- while on the food subject -- we did manage to find the absolute worst BBQ place in - of all places - Lexington, SC.   I understand that Lexington has great BBQ but I think we just happened to choose the worst place on a bad day.   Not only was the food pretty bad but the coffee was absolutely the worst that I have ever tasted.   In all fairness, the waitress/host was a very friendly woman but the cook and the "manager on duty" looked like they were - at most - in 11th or 12th grade.  

The very best place that we ate at on vacation was in Lake Providence, Louisiana.  More about that some other time.

Funny, earlier this year DV was going gaga cheering for it's opening.  


Back on the topic of the taxpayer handout to the Mexican Radio restaurant, and homeowners having their tax bills increased in order to pay the property and school taxes of this place.   The prices of the food are too high according to people who have gone there as well as the experts.   The service sucks also according to the people who have gone there and the experts.

The place has caused more reduction to the tax base, it is NOT helping the city at all, it provides ABSOLUTELY NO return to the taxpayers on their forced investment, it is causing more reduction in property values, it is causing higher tax bills which is causing more people to flee the city, it is causing more people to put their homes up for sale, it will cause more tax foreclosures in the city, more blight in the neighborhoods and cause the city to become more of a ghost town.

The vast Majority of "mexican food" in Texas is actually "Tex-Mex"...pretty big difference...

I've eaten in Mexico City and in Houston and south I can tell you Tex-Mex tends to use more beef,shrimp, and chicken, less beans and more "in your face" peppers..
It's all to appeal to the American and 2nd generation Mexican-American customers who think all Mexican food should kick you azz in a spicy.way ..not true at all...

There are a number of places in Texas to get authentic Mexican cooking and not "Tex-Mex."   You have to get off the main highways and head down the Farm-Market Roads to some of the smaller towns to find them.  Found another good authentic, family run Mexican place just outside of Freeport, TX this year. Not fancy -- but great food and very friendly place.

As for the original topic - Mexican Radio is NOT authentic Mexican food .. no one ever suggested that it was.  It is a stylized NYC approach to southwestern cuisine.   That type of bar/restaurant has its place -- and if they provide good service and good food than they should do well.  If they don't do those things than they won't do well.   I have not had a bad experience there nor have I heard of others having a bad experience there.

Oh, you have not heard of others having a bad experience there?   Um, why don't you try reading the paper and the tons and tons of people that apparently have written on that facebook thing that the service was very bad (in Schenectady).   That's write, pretend you don't read the news.
