After spending four years and approximately $4 million [OF THEIR OWN MONEY], the locally owned Mexican Radio restaurant group is preparing to open its third location, at Broadway and State Street in Schenectady. Lori Selden, who owns Mexican Radio with her husband, Mark Young, is the company's CEO, CFO and made all the design decisions for the 25,000-square-foot space that previously was home to OTB. The first-floor bar and dining area is open to a second-floor space with another bar and more tables.

2. Comprised of three connected brick buildings, Mexican Radio's third full bar and upstairs private-events room are located in the rear-most building. The restaurant, set to open in June, has approximately 80 employees and the capacity to hold more than 500 people. It is three times larger than Mexican Radio's Hudson location, open since 2003, and eight times bigger than the company's Manhattan restaurant.

3. A second-floor area for private events is open to the room above, which cannot be used by the public because it is not handicapped accessible. Ironwork throughout the restaurant, including the third-floor railing, was made by local craftsmen, as were bar tops, tables and more.

4. The Broadway side of the building, with State Street to the left, shows the varying heights of the different floors of the connected building. Selden said the facade's dominant color was inspired by verdigris, the pale-green hue of weathered copper, as on the State of Liberty. On the opposite side of the building is a 3,000-square-foot patio.

Yes many will be there with their camera to see how unhealthy you really eat.

And yes, cheer for another tax increase on the homeowners, and cheer for the money STOELN from homeowners who have been unable to make necessary repairs to their own homes in order pay for some of the cost of this building.   The owners of this restaurant should NEVER have been given one penny of taxpayer money!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But of course, an adult-aged man who is unable to be financially self sufficient, has not yet left the nest, does not live independently as a normal adult man, and who does not pay bills and taxes, naturally he would not understand.

You have to park in the city(Metroplex owned) lots, and walk a block.

So, Mexican Radio received $200,000 from Metroplex just to open their doors.

Then they are TAX EXEMPT through the PILOT agreement and will NOT have to pay taxes for three years.

Upon the fourth year in business, Mexican Radio will only pay 50% of the tax bill.

Savings....over $300,000 to the restaurant per year.

Cost to the taxpayers..... another million dollar gaping hole in the taxbase for years to come.

Maybe 50 part time jobs for millions gone.

They will be paying taxes -- per the PILOT, plus sales tax on food and beverages sold, plus income taxes paid by the owner and employees,  They also benefited the community by saving an historic, old building that was on the verge of collapse.

DV, Once again, you do not comprehend what you "read"

Uh, DV, the employer does NOT pay "income taxes!"   Where is your brain?  

The employEES there will have income taxes withheld from their paychecks,  But at income tax filing time they will get ALL tax withheld refunded to them PLUS they will get additional money.  DV, get yourself educated, About 98% of the jobs there are under $10 an hour which certainly is enough to make the employees eligible for EITC which means they get all tax refunded plus some!!!!!!!!!!

Now sales tax, come on DV, that is next to nothing.  All the restaurants and gin mills downtown and little shops and the past couple years Schenectady co has seen a drop, that is a REDUCTION in sale tax revenue.

The pilots paid are no where near what they get in tax dollars to fix up0, e.g., grants (uh, you obviously do NOT know what a grant is---it does NOT need to be repaid), then low or now interest loans, then of course lot of this is tax write-offs for them (just another tidbit that PROVES you know NOTHING at all about business and taxes)

Bottom line, is the net effect is a WINDFALL for the owners of the restaurant, AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!


You really need to go to school and take classes in business admin, accounting, and taxes.
