Wten's forecast is way too optimistic for anyplace south of Saratoga County...All the latest model runs are trending warmer. The north country should still get crushed by this storm, which is fine because at this point in winter, that's where I want the snow to be anyway... But for us in Schenectady and Albany Counties (minus the hills), I be surprised if we ended up with more than 4" from this...
Boxy.... G'ville should be in the sweetspot for this.. probably the biggest snowfall this year..

This storm will either be a 'snow dump' or a 'snow cone', depending on temperature.  I'd rather get the snow
than the ice that may hit Albany and south.

In all fairness, posting just one stations current predictions is pointless. A comparison would be interesting. Over the course of the day I've seen and heard all of 'em, and none are in agreement with each other. I've seen everything predicted, from just a rain event to apocalyptic and dire snowfalls. Meh, me I'll see what the it looks like in the a.m. At this point I no longer care, as the sun is creeping higher, this winter will just be a memory. Fond for some and gut-wrenching for others.

I'm an enigma, even to myself.

You are exactly correct!! weather forecasting has become the same as the LAME STREAM MEDIA...Sensationalize, ratings = $$$$$

I read years ago that the highest viewership/ratings during the news was for the weather segment.   This is also the segment that garners the highest advertising rates for commercials.   So it is little wonder why the weather is sensationalized.   Gets the highest ratings with it's "disaster"/imminent doom, fear inducing dramatics.   Hence a higher advertsing rate.

The rain changed to snow around 9am in Fulton County... and it's still snowing!

Mid March in Upstate NY... What could possibly happen???

The Great Blizzard of 1888 (March 11 – March 14, 1888) was one of the most severe recorded
blizzards in the history of the United States of America.
Snowfalls of 20–60 inches fell in parts of New York and sustained winds of more than 45 miles
per hour produced snowdrifts in excess of 50 feet.
Railroads were shut down and people were confined to their houses for up to a week.

Yes, I read about this.  One of the biggest global warming disasters in NY history.  It was caused by the excessive use of the steam locomotive.  Those damn industrialists!!!

Damn... It took us over a year to teach Cicero that he was dead wrong about an "INVASION",
I wonder how long it will take to instruct him that More Snow Is An Effect from Climate Change?

Is it worth it?  Should I instruct poor Cissy on the error of his ways? Or should I just let him
flounder in his IGNORANCE?

Cissy, I won't hold your hand like I did on your INVASION fiasco... but if you do want to learn
and not just post 'drama', try this:

The United States is already experiencing more intense rain and snowstorms.
The amount of rain or snow falling in the heaviest one percent of storms has risen
nearly 20 percent, averaged nationally—almost three times the rate of increase in
total precipitation between 1958 and 2007.

Some regions of the country have seen as much as a 67 percent increase in the
amount of rain or snow falling in the heaviest storms — and an updated version
of this figure from the draft National Climate Assessment suggests this increase
may have risen to 74 percent between 1958 and 2011.

It could be global warming or a natural cycle....
Accurate weather data has only been available for about 150 years...

Paleoclimatology is the study of changes in climate taken on the scale of the entire history
of Earth. It uses a variety of proxy methods from the Earth and life sciences to obtain data
previously preserved within (e.g.) rocks, sediments, ice sheets, tree rings, corals, shells and
microfossils; it then uses these records to determine the past states of the Earth's various
climate regions and its atmospheric system. Studies of past changes in the environment and
biodiversity often reflect on the current situation, and specifically the impact of climate on
mass extinctions and biotic recovery.

That's all well and good...but it doesn't address what you listed before...

We only have accurate precipitation data from about 1880 on..in your graph, our area which is getting 67% more precip per storm, should have had all of its biggest storms and heaviest snow winters in the last 55 years or so... the stats don't pan that out

As much as you blame the Koch brothers for glossing over climate change, you give a complete pass to the climate scientists and take their opinions verbatim... I look a both of them with suspicion.. each one has vested interests... The Koch brothers interests are well known, and scientists? Bad news gets research dollars and good news doesn't....

I believe climate change is happening, and frankly getting the world to act as a whole to reduce its severity is doomed to failure, but I don't believe its to blame for every single weather variance...

Of course not.  "Every single weather variance" is WEATHER, not Climate Change.

Quoted Text
"The difference between weather and climate is a measure of time.
Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time,
and climate is how the atmosphere "behaves" over relatively long periods of time. "
