ROTTERDAM - Police took a man into custody Sunday after he refused to come out of his home for three hours.

Police arrived at the home on Hamburg Street around 3:30 to check on the man's welfare.

The 35-year-old man refused to cooperate with police.

He was taken into custody after three hours without incident.

I'm hoping this is the white house on the corner - I'm friends with the owners on the other corner and a couple other residents there.

Let's see here.  3 hour stand-off and block off streets.  But a child on a bus the police rush in and break his harm when the kid wasn't even being physical with the cops

And we never heard another word about that kid.  It's AMAZING what the media chooses to report.

It will be interesting to hear how this call came about? Did someone call the cops? If so....why?

The reason why I ask.....and this is a true story.....husband and wife having problems....going thru divorce....wife calls cops stating her husband is 'mentally disturbed'....they came and took him away to ellis hospital where he HAD to stay for evaluation. He was released a day later....only to have the wife call AGAIN a few weeks later.....they took him away and threatened to keep him 'indefinitely'....but they didn't ONLY because the wife reversed her statement.

They took him away..... all on 'heresay' from the wife. Scary!

they can't keep him indefinitely.....he would've had to been diagnosed to be kept 'locked up'....the wife obviously didn't know.

You can threaten the medical personnel at the hospital (I'm not advocating that anyone should do this, I'm saying it's been done), and then get sent over to the jail instead. You will get released from jail a lot quicker. I think that's what you'd call a "loophole".

if THEY (the Hospital) aren't the ones to decide then who is...
not the cops, they can only provide preliminary observations
not his wife, who obviously has issues of her own for doing what she did
so who should it be.........?? just askin'!

doctors.......it's not up to the police....unless the wife would like to take the route of the claiming him incompetent and 'sick' and
being made responsible for his well being as a healthcare proxy he would become a ward of the state and that's a different kind of
court. If he committed a crime then the court will still send him to MD's to decide mental illness etc.

but yes, fu(king with someone via 'mental illness' phone calls can really be a bad thing.....there is no time limit on getting
'treatment'/diagnosis....that is, until the insurance runs out...and now that national healthcare has been instituted, there is
no limit on the institution/treatment time and every diagnosis change is a new 'billing beginning'.

mental illness doesn't have a court of justice.

for involuntary admittance

only can be kept up to 48 hrs on the diagnosis of the attending physician....and physician are on rotating shifts...

not all doctors have the same opinions for the ER and are not psychiatrists....therefore, patient can go home if

found "sound".

voluntary ... stay and be evaluated and have  a psychiatric  exam...
