Yeah, but pulling razor blades off the shelves wouldn't make them cutting edge...ha,ha get it, cutting edge, razor blades...no, nothing? Seriously though, with eliminating cigarettes it gives the perception that they care more about your health. It sets them apart from other pharmacies and that is where they can cash in. The sales are falling so they jump ahead and take advantage of being the ones to get rid if them because they care that much about you. They're willing to give up that profit cause they are interested in health, now are t they so much more trustworthy than rite aid? Rite aide just wants your money. Your child is sick, now who are you going to go to to get her healthy again? CVS who case about you, or that rite aide who peddles cancer?
It's a PR game...
You could be correct. I still don't believe discontinuing a profitable product was done to gain future market share by setting them apart. You can still get a 6 pack of beer, a Snickers bar, and a bag of Doritos while picking up your blood pressure medicine at CVS.
My guess is that down the road, pharmacies that choose to discontinue selling tobacco products will be rewarded with some kind of tax incentive to make up for the loss of tobacco sales. CVS' announcement was to create the national debate in order to lead up to some jack-off legislator sponsoring a bill that will "incentivize" pharmacies not to sell tobacco products.

Dumb @ss legislation is nothing new. The Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich, is a good example.

Something is up, that's for sure. I wonder where Katie Couric and the other "journalists" who report these half-stories get their cigarettes from?
Probably from convenient stores like most people.

AND vitamins should also be taken off the shelves.........they are not fda approved.....well unless if the companies that manufacture and wholesale these vitamins are political contributors.

LMAO! Henry wants CVS, a pharmacy, to stop selling drugs!
Nope I just find it funny how the side effects are worse then what they are attempting to fix, those legal drugs are now killing more people then illegal drugs at over 100,000 people per year.

Dietary supplement manufacturers and distributors are not required to obtain approval from FDA before marketing dietary supplements. Before a firm markets a dietary supplement, the firm is responsible for ensuring that ~the products it manufactures or distributes are safe ~any claims made about the products are not false or misleading ~the products comply with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and FDA regulations in all other respects

Today, we’ve announced that we are ending the sales of tobacco in all 7,600 CVS/pharmacy stores by October 1. As a health care company, it’s time for us to take a stand and to put our customers, colleagues and patients on a path to better health.

WNYT-TV updated 2/6/2014 9:18:30 PM ET Print Font: A few weeks ago, Price Chopper launched a sort of 'doc in the box'. It's a site, in some stores, where you can check your blood pressure, get health care advice and answers to some health questions from a doctor who you talk to on the phone. Now, two of the supermarkets are offering enhanced care at what they're calling 'quick care' clinics. It's a partnership between Price Chopper and Ellis Medicine. "We're really happy to be able to have this quick care clinic," Neil Golub said. In our super busy, work a day world, Price Chopper Supermarkets and Ellis Medicine want to make sure you don't skimp on health care. So they've created mini-clinics at two stores, Latham and Malta, where you can be seen by a nurse practitioner for minor health issues like sore throat, cough, or nasty cold. "Anybody with a more complex history or even on physical exam, if you were to detect anything more complicated beyond the scope of this practice we would refer them to an urgent care or the emergency department, whichever was appropriate," Ellen Boyle of Ellis Medicine said. The key is to keep you out of those sites if your condition doesn't warrant that level of care. These quick care clinics will be open 7 days a week from 10- 6. The cost is 40 dollars, which at this point the visit is not covered by insurance. But as Price Chopper's Neil Golub points out, it's worth the price. "So, if you gotta cold you can come over here and have somebody see you and talk to you and give you good advice on what to do," Golub said. "Then you can go over to the other side of the store and get chicken soup to help get rid of your cold."

Maybe the could make a deal with some of the Sunoco stations. Check your oil, check your bp.
I found an article on the CVS issue where the author is thinking along the same lines as some of us: The widespread consensus that CVS decided to benevolently forego the $2 billion in annual tobacco sales might not be what it’s cracked out to be. Firstly, Dr. Troyen Brennan, the company’s chief medical officer, stated that “CVS Caremark believes that now is the time for retailers, perhaps spurred by policy makers, to eliminate sales of cigarettes and other tobacco products by institutions that also have pharmacies.” CVS isn’t merely taking voluntary action, they’re also publicly calling for coercive measures to undermine the business models of their competitors and the integrity of consumer choice. And that’s something to celebrate?
There's more: "Whether this has been prompted by government isn’t entirely clear, but with the lucrative Affordable Care Act and the carefully coordinated social media campaign with the White House, it certainly has some of the hallmarks of ‘Blue Eagle’-style corporatism. At least the skeptics among us won’t be too surprised if government rules or Congress legislates that any pharmacy receiving government funds via Medicare or Medicaid can no longer sell products they deem unwholesome." The article is worth reading, it's a good one.

Talk about "FAIR AND BALANCED"!

RIGHT! In a time when a SuperBowl commercial can cost $4million for a 30 second ad, CVS is investing it's promotion dollars in this Anti Cig campaign. CVS cares about you... (If you have dollars to spend) and CVS is hoping this sets them apart from all the rest to attract your dollars.
CVS cares about you by limiting your personal choices, because the board of directors of a multi billion dollar company knows how you and every American should live your life. In 4 years CVS will stop offering the morning after pill, follow by a republican president endorsing the corporate decision, and Box will be seething with anger.

Restaurants don't sell cosmetics, so they are limiting your personal choices. Gas Stations don't sell designer clothes so they are limiting your personal choices. Drugstores don't sell Surf and Turf sit down dinners, so they are limiting your personal choices. Movie theaters don't sell cigarettes so they are limiting your personal choices. They all know how you and every American should live your life. GET REAL !!!!!!!!

Box, a freelance writer by the name of Ewan Watt is the 'source' of the article. Tucker Carlson did not write it. I did not expect you to read it, only some of the other posters, who I thought might be interested in the man's take on the topic. You are the only one who thinks this decision has anything to do with health.
