HA! Somehow I'm sure Obama was still behind it.

I have to agree that this is less about government and more about public image. People have been calling pharmacies hypocrites for years because they have continued to sell cigarettes. Now that smoking is on the decline and sales will only continue to fall naturally it makes sense for them to be "ahead of the curve" and promote health. I dont believe they have any real interest I anyone's health, but it is a sound business model for a pharmacy to promote health.

Yer kidding me?  Razor blade companies are seeing their salses decline because more people are growing facial hair, and I don't see them pulling razor blades off the shelf.  Of course if fascist political dealings.

You reduce your supply to meet your demand, the margins are the same.

"Target To Stop Selling Cigarettes

August 29, 1996|By Bloomoberg Business News

MINNEAPOLIS — Dayton Hudson Corp.'s Target Stores said it will stop selling cigarettes because the business isn't profitable. The nation's third-largest discount retailer also said its cigarette business -- which accounts for $79 million a year, or less than 1 percent of sales -- added extra costs. Employees have to disburse the cigarettes, rather than let customers serve themselves, because the product can't be skld to minors.
......
Some retailers have banned cigarettes for other reasons. Two years ago Wal-Mart Canada stopped selling cigarettes and other tobacco products throughout Canada because of a new Ontario law banning their sale in stores with pharmacies"

Very interesting..... looks like someone will be proposing this law....bet it's the DEMS.

Read the side effects of some of the drugs they sell at CVS and tell me if this is about safety

Yeah, but pulling razor blades off the shelves wouldn't make them cutting edge...ha,ha get it, cutting edge, razor blades...no, nothing?  Seriously though, with eliminating cigarettes it gives the perception that they care more about your health. It sets them apart from other pharmacies and that is where they can cash in. The sales are falling so they jump ahead and take advantage of being the ones to get rid if them because they care that much about you. They're willing to give up that profit cause they are interested in health, now are t they so much more trustworthy than rite aid? Rite aide just wants your money. Your child is sick, now who are you going to go to to get her healthy again? CVS who case about you, or that rite aide who peddles cancer?

It's a PR game...

RIGHT!  In a time when a SuperBowl commercial can cost $4million for a 30 second ad, CVS is investing
it's promotion dollars in this Anti Cig campaign.
CVS cares about you... (If you have dollars to spend) and CVS is hoping this sets them apart from
all the rest to attract your dollars.

A Conspiracy Behind Every Tree!

It's not a conspiracy, the President of the United States found time to comment on what products CVS chooses to carry.  Not only did he comment, he endorsed it.  That really happened, it wasn't a theory.

IF the President of the United States made a statement in support of a company who's plan is to
help save the life and health of America's citizens, then he should be commended.

Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of disease,
disability, and death in the United States. Each year, an estimated
443,000 people die prematurely from smoking or exposure to secondhand
smoke, and another 8.6 million live with a serious illness caused by smoking.

CDC

Thank You President Barack Hussein Obama!

CVS can choose not to sell you oral contraceptives as well, Box. I would much rather not have big corporations, along with the president, taking a stand on what they think I should be allowed to buy. The same government that refuses to mandate labeling of GMO or cloned food products. I would much rather have the government/big business provide consumer information (labeling) that I can't readily obtain for myself, and let me take it from there.

No one is telling you what you should BUY.  They are both supporting a stand against SELLING
highly addictive products that (even if used in moderation) will kill you.

Authoritarians???  I think Cissy is confused.  An "authoritarian" would outlaw cigarettes, ban
their sale and manufacture.  Neither Obama or CVS are proposing that.

What Cicero's Authoritarians are doing is to outlaw and ban abortions... Cicero's authoritarians are
telling women (especially poor women) that they can't have access to abortion, because
it's against the Authoritarian's religion.
