It would cost 5 million dollars less than the estimate to fix Oak St.

Dear Mayor McDumbass,

Just forget the Oak St bridge. Let it fall down on the trains. Then they might accept some responsibility.

Here is the new plan:

1. Go to maps.google.com and enter the following latitude/longitude: 42.789433,-73.947163

2. Zoom in a bit and you will see Sportsman's Bowl and Power Pallet sitting 300 feet apart.

3. Make a new road that starts between the Crane St under/over bridges, drop in a couple of culvert piping tubes and connect Crane St to either Consaulus Ave or Mervin which turns into Westside.

The abandoned Power Pallet building wouldn't mind. You could even demolish it and put the road straight to Westside.

No train tracks, no bridges, just the bypass that everyone wants back.

Most people that used the Oak St bridge went either up Cheltingham to the city or cut back up to Westside to go to Rotterdam.

I hereby name this project the Altamont Ave traffic congestion bypass project.

I also hereby name the road the Altamont Avenue Bypass.

I thought libertarians prized - absolutely - privately held property?  Now you're advocating taking it from them because they wouldn't mind??

That's why people think libertarians aren't a viable option.  The core of the group changes their minds whenever it suits them best.

Power Pallet isn't likely the eminent domain issue here...

Those two words shouldn't even be on the table .. there's a viable option already in existence.  Their failure to maintain it shouldn't be the burden of a private property owner.

I agree! they knew back in 2000 that the bridge needed work (which would have cost less). They knew again in 2010!! Where were their priorities? This is NOT the railroad's responsibility. The city is broke and looking for a handout! They mismanaged their money and set their priorities on other things other than INFRASTRUCTURE!!! Now it came back to bite them in the a$$.

I don't even think the city dimwits can bond this repair. Not until they get their financial house in order.

I never used the word "take."

The property in question is vacant land between Power pallet, the bowling alley and Consaulus Ave.

I looked at the spot and you can easily connect the roadway behind the bowling alley to Consaulus Ave with little effort.

With a 4 wheel drive truck you could drive through there right now.

Connecting Crane St with Hungry Hill would increase the value of both commercial properties closest to the site.

Additionally, the last estimate to repair the bridge was $6 million.

You could buy any disputed lands easily and still save $5 million.

gave the $$$ to proctors so that folks who need to travel from the 'poorer' section couldn't actually make it to proctors

He announced a plan to call on the City Council to adopt a paving program that would seek to pave more than 10 miles of streets this year. McCarthy also anticipates that repairs to the Oak Street Bridge will begin later this year, after a structural analysis of the bridge is completed in a few months.
