If I'm not mistaken, the STAR WARS program intent was to detonate the missile upon launch (basically bombing their own location), and
Regan intended to have satellites positioned over Russia at all times.

The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI...aka Star Wars) was specifically geared to defeat the Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) scenario.

It was imagined to be a two stage system with the primary being a network of satellites armed with lasers to destroy ICBM warheads in sub-orbit and a secondary ground based system of missiles to get everything else.

The Soviets freaked out about it.

From Henry's post:
It is the policy of the United States to deploy as soon as is technologically possible an
effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending the territory of the United
States against limited ballistic missile attack.

Again from Henry's post:

So in both cases we are discussing FUTURE WEAPONS that are being TESTED and may make
a suitable weapon AS SOON AS IT IS TECHNOLOGICALLY POSSIBLE!

Again, quoting Henry's post.

How is the PAC-3 missile different from the PATRIOT used in Desert Storm?
The PAC-3 missile is a mobile, high-velocity, hit-to-kill interceptor developed to provide increased defense capability against short-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and aircraft. Unlike earlier versions of the PATRIOT missile, which use an explosive warhead to destroy its target, the PAC-3 missile collides with its target in mid-air at extremely high speed, destroying the target and neutralizing it's payload. Other system upgrades include: improved radar performance allowing enhanced target discrimination; and new system software that improves determination of target launch and impact points and provides an interface with THAAD. PAC-3 is currently deployed with the U.S. Army around the world.

YUP! The US has a technological advantage on this weapon but SDI  it was never developed or deployed.
Much of the knowledge was used in defensive missiles such as discussed above for the AEGIS cruisers.

YUP!  Short Range, just like your post explains.
Not ICBM's fired from a Russian (or Chinese) Sub.

I wonder if they made any progress since 1999

Public Law 106–38
106th Congress
An Act
To declare it to be the policy of the United States to deploy a national missile
defense.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of
the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘National Missile Defense Act
of 1999’’.
SEC. 2. NATIONAL MISSILE DEFENSE POLICY.
It is the policy of the United States to deploy as soon as
is technologically possible

an effective National Missile Defense
system capable of defending the territory of the United States
against limited ballistic missile attack (whether accidental,
unauthorized, or deliberate) with funding subject to the annual
authorization of appropriations and the annual appropriation of
funds for National Missile Defense.
SEC. 3. POLICY ON REDUCTION OF RUSSIAN NUCLEAR FORCES.
It is the policy of the United States to seek continued negotiated
reductions in Russian nuclear forces.
Approved July 22, 1999.

And the key words here are:
"to deploy as soon as is technologically possible"

The funding for this law is yet to be determined, waiting for the technology first, then back to
the US Congress to find the money to build the system.

As yet... no system exists.

Don't know what, I told you to Google it and hit news, many NEWS stories will come up talking about our MDS. I don't have to prove nothing, anyone here can do what I told you and they can see for themselves.

Some folks need to be spoon fed by the LAME STREAM MEDIA!!

I have posted information from the mouths that 'know'...high ranking marines/air force!! Unless one wants to discredit our boys in uniform......

Actually, this technology is considered 'dated' altho still ready and able.....folks would be impressed at the 'new technology'.....and ya won't find THAT on the net!! Not for at least a few more years. Old technology gets published as 'new technology'. The 'real new technology' won't be published until there is even a newer one to replace it...that's how it works!!

Again.......we ain't in vietnam anymore.

Its been that way for years, I don't know why some find that hard to believe. No country would show their hand until the chips were down.

Why wouldn't they, we have people like Snowden who revealed stuff to everyone, I'm sure many tell their families things here and there, its human nature.

Amazing logic... this is a top secret weapon, that everyone knows about.  How clever!

Nothing clever about it the military is always upgrading systems or trying to create a new system entirely, is this surprising to you?

No self-respecting HIGH RANKING Military person in a HIGH SECURITY position would
divulge non-public defense knowledge to civilians, even family.
Doing so is not an Article 15 violation, it is a crimial offense
subjecting them to forfeiture of pay and rank, jail time
and dishonorable discharge at minimum.....
So why wouldn't they....becuase no one achieves HIGH RANKING
and then does such a thing to jeopardize what they have worked for....simple as that!
These are not contract people in civilian psotion of low ranking cross dressing military losers.

PS - Snowden was a "contractor" and also not a HIGH RANKING military person in a HIGH SECURITY position!!!!

I'm not talking about giving out our nuclear arming codes or anything like that but I'm sure they talk to family about projects they're working on. It probably goes something like this

1: Hi honey how was your day
2: Ah I'm beat, put in a lot of hours
1: what they have you do today?
2: Working on the new project, should be done in a few months...hopefully
1: So its coming along good huh?
2: yeah we just ran some test and it looks like the new fighter jet will be a success, the newest radar won't even notice it.
1: well that's good, well diner is ready
1 and 2: nom nom nom nom
