Pope Francis faulted the Roman Catholic church for focusing
too much on gays, abortion and contraception, saying the
church has become "obsessed" with those issues to the detriment
of its larger mission to be "home for all,"

Obsessed?
HUH!  The Pope must read this board!

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

BINGO???

The Catholic church makes lots of those DOLLARS with BINGO, but this post has nothing to do with
those who donate to the Catholic Church...
Read the Pope's words.  He wants to welcome all people to the church.  Not just the Right Wing bigots
who he spoke of as "Obsessed".

Yup most of the faithful know that, that is why the church has been going downhill, its not that the faith of God is gone but the faith of the church is gone.

The Faith of the Church is NOT gone.  And Pope Francis' words do not change Church teaching - they just clarify what the Church has always taught "hate the sin, love the sinner."  The Pope has not changed Church teaching on the intrinsic evil of abortion but has reiterated that the Church must always be welcome to women who have had abortions -- women who seek comfort and healing and compassion.  The Church will always vigorously oppose Abortion but will always stand ready to welcome the women wounded and scarred by the scourge of abortion.

You need to read more carefully.  I wrote  Faith OF the the Church.  Our faith is in God.  The Church is merely all the believers - all of whom are sinners in need of healing and redemption - here on earth.

And I suggest that everyone read the WHOLE interview given by Pope Francis.  Welcoming the sinner has ALWAYS been a part of Catholic Church teaching because WE ALL ARE SINNERS.  Welcoming the sinner does NOT negate the seriousness nor the evil of the sin itself.
