Colo. Senate President Loses Recall Over Gun Laws

Democratic Senate President John Morse has been recalled by Colorado Springs voters in a special election driven by his support for new gun restrictions.
A majority of voters said "yes" to the question of whether Morse should be recalled from office Tuesday night. They chose former Republican City Councilman Bernie Herpin as his successor.
Morse was an appealing target for a recall because he narrowly won re-election in 2010. He supported several Democratic-sponsored gun bills this year, including new limits on the size of ammunition magazines and expanding background checks to online and private firearm sales.
Democratic Sen. Angela Giron of Pueblo also faced a recall over the gun laws, which were a response to mass shootings in Colorado and Connecticut last year. |
