TJ hooker is much more fitting and much more fun to add a spin to their names!

Oh. That's sort of like we used to do as kids. Let's see there was Crying Brian, Fat Pat and Smelly Kelly to name a few. Then there was a school official we used to call squeaky. Sure, I get it now.

I'm an enigma, even to myself.

I know it's confusing...but that ROTTENdam...
The town carved the paramedics out of the town budget...completely!
Money 'saved' went for raises.
NOW...rems 'hired' the paramedics. they are now on rems' payroll. (that in itself should be interesting)

Ah, gotcha

it will be VERY interesting to see how rems will pay these paramedics/health care/pension for life!

Did they buy the paramedic's vehicles too?

And they better NOT beg residents for donations either!!

Cause only the rems groupies will donate.

And it will be embarrassing to say the least.

I don't post here much as you can see.
REM's going door to door looking for donations would be fine with me. The fire depts. use to do it.
Now they just mail out the donation forms, can't be bothered to go door to door and they receive tax money

the fire departments don't bill for their service and never claimed to be a 'private business' like rems did and does.

The fire districts get a budget that is AUTOMATIC and no one has a vote on it except for the commissioners.......

REMS IS A BUSINESS......

REMS does not claim to be a "business".....they are "not for profit"........one of their most repeated irrelevant arguments in their lame defense.
If they were a business they either would have evaporated long ago, or they would be solvent after 77 years of operation....another one of the
frequently repeated and irrelevant arguments on their side of this debate....what difference does it make how long they've been around if in all
that time they could never resolve their numerous and ongoing issues.....that only further strengthens the case for Mohawk.

Mutual Aid - What is it and how does it work?

I've called for an ambulance, and when it arrived, it wasn't my regular service provider.  Why is that?  There are times when the EMS system has requests for service that outnumber the amount of resources that are available at that time.  In situations like this, EMS services rely on outside agencies to assist covering these calls to ensure the requests for services are met in a timely fashion.  Rotterdam EMS is no different.

REMS participates in the Schenectady County Emergency Medical Services Mutual Aid Plan.  Under this plan, if the primary service provider, which for Rotterdam and Princetown is Rotterdam Emergency Medical Services,  is not available to handle a request for service, the dispatch agency will contact another service provider for coverage.  Typically, the geographically closet provider will be asked to respond to the request.  If that service is not available, the request moves on to the next agency and so on.

According to the Schenectady County Mutual Aid Plan, an agency can define and “reserve a core capacity of resources for use only in their primary operating territory”*.  For REMS, this means if one of the two primary duty ambulances is not available because they are on a service request, REMS will keep the second primary ambulance available for Rotterdam or Princetown calls and not respond out of that area.  In situations like this, a call back system is used in an effort to staff an additional ambulance to respond to a neighboring community’s needs.  This same call back system is used if both primary ambulances are assisting residents in their time of need.  However, if dispatch information, a paramedic or patrol officer on scene indicate that the additional service request poses an immediate life danger, the mutual aid system will be used so there is no delay in a resident receiving definitive care.  As REMS has 4 ambulances, this scenario holds true if a fourth service request is received.

If a neighboring community has a mass casualty incident, REMS will provide whatever resources are needed at the scene.  A mass casualty incident is an incident where an agency and its providers are overwhelmed by the number and severity of patients.  In this type of situation, REMS will use the call back system and possibly activate the mutual aid plan to provide primary coverage to Rotterdam and Princetown.  Likewise, if Rotterdam or Princetown has a mass casualty incident, a call back will be initiated and mutual aid will be requested to both cover the primary area and respond to the scene.

Large scale or long duration incidents are another scenario where mutual aid can be used.  There are times when resources may be tied up providing coverage for this type of incident and will not be available to respond to other requests.  If this type of incident occurs, it is general practice to call back providers to staff all available ambulances and/or have mutual aid agencies stand-by within Rotterdam or Princetown to meet the needs of our residents.  Large scale/long duration events include large fires, hazardous material incidents, natural disasters, large weather events, man-made disasters etc.

Rotterdam EMS is proud to be able to provide mutual aid services to our neighboring communities and are very grateful when neighboring agencies can provide mutual aid service to our residents when the situation arises.
