You've help make my point... there are differences between stores.  Walmart Sucks!  Buy what you
need elsewhere.

Walmart is no different than the other chain stores.. just bigger...
If you have the luxury being able to afford to buy everything with the best quality, great...but most people don't..
If you need to buy from a big retailer because you can't afford the item any other way, Walmart is no worse than the others...

If the truth be known...........many major market chains BUY THEIR products FROM walmart........FACT!!!!

It is actually cheaper for these markets to buy (wholesale) from walmart, for resale, than it is to buy from a distributor......FACT!!!

Walmart 'sells' (shelf price) their products for the price that most market chains 'buy wholesale'....before the mark up.....FACT!!!

So at the end of the day..........you really don't know WHAT you are eating or where it REALLY came from......FACT!!!

I am not a wealthy person.  I'm no different than most middle class Americans.
But I do have a choice on what I buy.  I spend a few extra dollars on some food to buy a better quality
when I think it's worth it.

We all have a choice to buy the cheapest food or to buy the best food we can afford.
There is a reason that the beef you buy is full of antibiotics... cows raised in crowded conditions
up to their knees in mud get sick.  They are fed antibiotics to prevent disease not cure it.

Bison Elk etc are hearty animals and if raised in good conditions almost never need medical attention.

I don't eat much red meat anyway, but I would eat even less if I had to stick with Bison.. the taste is just not for me.
IMHO, your food should be the first place you spend for quality...but, I think we are all fooling ourselves if we think what we are eating is absolutely pure....from inception (planting, birth) to harvesting, to delivery.. there are too many steps to insure something "bad" hasn't happened to the food.
Even with organic food, the definition is so loose from jurisdiction to jurisdiction that you can't guarantee what you are eating hasn't been treated with something.. and independent studies have shown NO difference in long term benefit from an Organic vs non-Organic diet.

I eat Ground Bison and Bison stew meat.  The steaks are less appealing, for that I buy grass fed,
free range beef when I can find it.

Meats and cold cuts - Sal's Market
Fruits and vegetables - Hannaford.
Canned and packaged foods - Wal Mart
Paper, plastic products and household items - Wal Mart

Wal Mart canned and packed foods are generally 10-25% lower.

Wal Mart accepts coupons from Price Chopper, Shop Rite, Hannaford, etc.

Organic, To buy or not to buy

With some food it pays to buy organic, with others, not so much.

I hate buying pencils at walmart just because I HATE going into a walmart...if I want to go to a flea market then I would
go to a flea market....walmart is like a 3rd world country...even their vacuum cleaners are made for them at a lower quality...
levi jeans too......

save money...live better

that 30minutes in a walmart is time I will never get back....that's not living better

My family and I prefer shopping at Gabriel's, Greulich's, the CO-OP and direct from certain farms.  The ONLY chain supermarket that my family and I shop at is Shop-Rite -- but that is only for a few items.

All supermarkets buy from each other in a sense.  If Walmart buys a load of US#1 potato's and when they arrive at their warehouse and do not meet their specs or they already have too much inventory because sales are low, they will reject the load back to the shipper.  The shipper then finds another buyer, which could be Price Chopper, and they will ship the load of potato's to the Price Chopper warehouse.  If they meet Price Chopper specs and have room in inventory, the load will be received in and sold retail.

Ruby Robinson is one of the largest growers of potatoes in America, so whether you buy your potatoes from Price Chopper, Shop Rite, Hanaford, or Price Chopper, they most likely are all from the same grower.

The only difference in produce between supermarkets is freshness.  That is managed by the buyer keeping newer inventory and getting it to retail when it's most fresh.  If you get your local supermarkets delivery schedule from their distribution center, you get the freshest produce.  Of course you don't know how long it's been in their warehouse.  But, I would take my chances with Altamont Ave Price Chopper for produce because of its relationship to the distribution center.

In a sense, they do not buy from each other, but rather have same or similar sources they purchase from...your comments substantiate that!
The "FACTS" that your friend has presented is that Walmart is the SOURCE and I am only asking for proof of these "FACT" statements
to show they are not fabricated comments! Not sure that is too much to ask or confrontational...just looking for validation.
Frankly I believe the "FACT" is BS....just sayin'

Here's an interesting read about Wally world
http://www.fastcompany.com/47593/wal-mart-you-dont-know

Point of clarification: Ruby Robinson is a distributor not a grower.
"We are national produce distributors specializing in potatoes and onions, but we also sell a full line of fresh fruits and vegetables. Ruby Robinson is one of the largest distributors of fresh potatoes in the country."

History

Ruby Robinson, Inc. was started in 1966, by Rubin Robinson. When Rubin retired, his son, Gary Robinson, took over the company. George Melshenker, Scott Weber, and Jeff Nianick worked for Gary for over twenty years before purchasing Ruby Robinson, Inc. from him in 1991. The company has grown from a thirty million dollar company in 1991, to a 300 million dollar company today, including all of our affiliates that were created after 1991 (Produce Alliance, LLC, On A Roll Trucking, Inc. and Sweet Mama Produce, LLC). We grow and supply a full line of fresh produce to national and regional retail grocery chains, foodservice operators, master distributors, terminal markets, and specialty markets. With the help of our Salinas and Atlanta offices selling California mixed vegetables, our commodity base has increased from what was once only potatoes and onions, to nearly every fresh produce item.We are still one of the largest single buyers of Idaho potatoes in the country. We have buying offices in Buffalo Grove, IL, Suwanee, GA, Salinas, CA, Lancaster, PA, Springhill, FL, and Longmeadow, MA. Even in today’s difficult economy we continue to grow as we have over the past forty years, mixing in some of the brightest minds in the business..

http://rubyrobinson.com/history.html

Also, there is something that is called a change of ownership, where a Walmart may use a third party warehouse(3PL) or broker, and the buyer who owns the product may sell the product while its rolling across country, or while stored in the 3rd party warehouse.  Much of the produce bought and sold is done while the truck rolling down the highway.  Walmart may use a broker who may have bought a load of apples for Walmart coming out of Washington St. and sell it to Price Chopper when that truck is in Kansas.

Point of clarification: Ruby Robinson is also a grower.
