Typical elitist academic... Telling you how you should think about the world and raise your kids...

Yes he is.  He's suggesting that you teach your kids actual SCIENCE in SCIENCE class.

No, he's demanding it... and contrary to what you want to portray, it IS being taught in the vast majority of public schools.
What Bill Nye doesn't have the guts to do is to say what he REALLY means and wants...the removal of Religion from all aspects of public life...

Billy boy blames the lack of US children in scientific careers on Creationism, but totally ignores cultural factors like the importance of sports, music and other entertainment notables in today's society....of course, that would be biting the hand that fed him since he made most of his money in that medium....

Shouldn't we all demand that RELIGION not be taught in public schools?  Shouldn't we all demand
that SCIENCE be taught in SCIENCE class?

A private school can teach religion but teaching RELIGION as if it were SCIENCE is ridiculous.

If you want to learn about RELIGION, the bible is one source.
If you want to learn about MATH, look in a MATH book... not the bible.
If you want to learn about SCIENCE, look in a SCIENCE book... not the bible.

Absolutely not... To ignore Religion is to essentially ignore a major part of recorded History. Wars have been fought for it, people have died for it, countries have fallen for it. To not cover each one of the major established Religions is nothing but educational cowardice.

A class on 'comparative religion' would be a useful school topic.

The history of religion and it's effect on society is a valid topic.  Teaching A religion is not.

I can't even believe this is a thread.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Sad but true Graham.  There are some Americans who deny evolution and support creationism.

Bill Nye is an jewish/american comedian, television host  with a 'net worth of $6.5 million'. He began, as an actor on a local television show called Almost Live!

One of his professors was 'Carl Sagan'.

nothin like seeking the 'opinions' of a jewish commedian/actor who was influenced by carl sagan.

but wth....folks did it with ronald reagan too!!

They question evolution and they question creationism.  You want no questioning.  You support pure indoctrination and an adherence to one thought process.  You would like nothing more than uniformed thought.  No room for interpretation.  FACTS - as they are told to you.

Yea he's a "comedian"
Also:
Bill Nye is a graduate of Cornell with a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He holds three Honorary Doctorate degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Goucher College,
and Johns Hopkins.

He has delivered commencement addresses at the University of California Santa Barbara,
RPI, Goucher, Hopkins, Harvey Mudd College, and Caltech.

Bill is currently the Executive Director of The Planetary Society, the world’s large space interest organization.

Not bad for a "comedian".

My problem with the "science" pushers in the media today is that there will be some study or discovery, the actual scientists will publish their findings, and then there will be a big report with headlines in the papers and interviews with "experts" on tv, and they will make a leap and draw a conclusion, often based on politics or PCism, that isn't supported by the study.
Here's an example recently that bothered me:
There was a recent study having to do with dementia and retirement age. Not surprisingly, people who kept working longer had less dementia. This is something people already knew, from observation, but it isn't science without testing. Even I know that, with high school level science training. So, they do this study, with findings based on real people. Fine. Then, on the news, the anchor interviews this Dr. Nancy Snyderman, who appears deranged, but that's just my unscientific observation. Guess what she concludes from that study? We should raise the retirement age to prevent Alzheimers! I kid you not! Never mind that it is already well known that people who develop dementia early drop out of the work force, or that people who stay unusually sharp often re-enter the work force out of boredom with retirement. No, she makes a completely unscientific leap and it gets reported that way on national television.
Nobody knows what happened to the dinosaurs. Scientists make guesses all the time, pretty good guesses based on known facts, but often what they previously thought turns out to be wrong.

Funny, but not too far off from some of the things we were taught, sadly. Where are the fossils from these fish that decided to walk and breathe air, BTW?
