As I figured dodge the question, so who were blacks supposed to go to for help, if cops wouldn't help them and in fact were the problem as your picture states what were they supposed to do. Arming themselves seemed like their last ditch effort to protect themselves since the government and the police failed them.
If I were black and living in the USA, (especially in the South) I'd arm myself for self protection. IMO, they DO have a need to protect themselves for when your upcoming race war begins.

Race war? It seems that African Americans are having a war with the colors of authority - blue. If you watch the protest in Ferguson and NYC, you even see white faces in those crowds. It's the government that is choking to death and shooting black people(or anybody else regardless of race that does not comply with their demands)

I bet there won't be any crime in their neighborhood, and the police will not have to patrol there either making both sides happy.

Why would they patrol any area they don't live in. If they or my neighbors want to patrol their respected neighborhood that's fine. I and my neighbors keep a close eye on each others homes and our street already and will take what ever action is required.
Plus we have a group patrolling the Rotterdam neighborhoods now too.....not saying they are open carrying but I am sure their vehicles and person's are not "unprotected"

I have no problem with a neighborhood watch. They are effective and probably do much to cut crime and vandalism.
I do have a problem with someone "armed and patrolling" my neighborhood. Consider the 'armed' neighborhood watch by child molester George Zimmerman.
