EHealth gets the contract it wanted for Obamacare, shares skyrocket

EHealth Inc.’s big breakthrough came Wednesday in the form of a long-awaited critical government contract that sent the online health insurance broker’s shares skyrocketing by 20%.
Shutterstock EHealth /quotes/zigman/100739 /quotes/nls/ehth EHTH +29.78%was up $4.80 to $28.74 in recent action after scoring a deal with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to help enroll those eligible for tax subsidies in health plans in 36 states under President Obama’s health-care overhaul, also known as Obamacare. The stock move brings EHealth to a 52-week high.

The company will have access to federal electronic databases in order to determine eligibility for subsidies, but the company is quick to point out there will be “strict consumer- and privacy-protective requirements and standards beyond those spelled out in regulations.” EHealth still needs to sign an agreement spelling out the federal requirements for brokers.

EHealth still may be called upon to help the 14 states that are setting up their own exchanges but this deal is a “clear win” for the company as it tries to enlist this business, Deutsche Bank analyst Scott Fidel said in a note to clients.

“We note that [EHealth's] CEO Gary Lauer canvassed Washington intensively to get this agreement signed with CMS so this is a clear win for the company,” Fidel said.

Michelle Obama got a big promotion in the health care field when her husband became a senator. I think that is why that whole HIPPA thing came about, to get people complacent for when the government had all your health records in one place and started sharing them with anybody they want to. This started way before Obama's administration. What a phony he is.
