Gallup just released a poll that reveals more and more Americans are shifting in ideological attitudes, and identifying themselves as ‘liberals’ in regard to social and economic issues. At the same time, fewer Americans are describing themselves as ‘conservatives.’

The graph states "view on social issues by self identified democrats". That's quite different from Americans shifting ideology on social and economic issues. Do you have a link to the original article or research?

Forty-one percent of Americans now characterize their economic views as "conservative," or "very conservative," the lowest since President Barack Obama took office in 2009 and on par with where views were in May 2008. This year's downtick in the percentage of Americans identifying as economically conservative has been accompanied by an uptick in the percentage identifying as economically moderate -- now 37% of Americans, up from 32% last year. The percentage of Americans calling themselves economic liberals has remained virtually unchanged from last year at 19%, and has not fluctuated much since 2001.

There has been no uptick in liberal economic views, only a slight increase from conservative to moderate. The gap is closing on social issues, my suspicion is that issues such as gay marriage have more support than previously.
"The study shows conservative politicians believe their ‘followers’ are more conservative than they actually are".

“There is a striking conservative bias in politicians’ perceptions, particularly among conservatives: conservative politicians systematically believe their constituents are more conservative than they actually are by more than 20 percentage points on average, and liberal politicians also typically overestimate their constituents’ conservatism by several percentage points."

“Non-Hispanic whites accounted for 89% of Republican self-identifiers nationwide in 2012, while accounting for 70% of independents and 60% of Democrats,” Gallup reports. “On the other hand, relatively few Hispanics and blacks identified as Republicans, while both of these groups represented a significantly higher percentage of independents and Democrats nationwide.”

If the GOP continues to dig its grave by introducing bills against the reproductive rights of women, opposing healthcare, even the simplest gun safety, and the environment, Democrats should have a clear shot in 2014.

Conservatives Terrified By America’s Rising Surge of Liberalism

The Coming Revival of Liberalism
A new poll from Public Religion Research Institute shows growing support for a more liberal approach to policy that I think will gather steam in years to come. For example, 63 percent of people support higher taxes on those making more than $250,000 , with only 34 percent opposed. There is now majority support for allowing gays to marry versus 41 percent opposed. Raising the minimum wage is supported by 73 percent of people, with just 25 percent opposed. And 54 percent of people favor legal abortion, with 42 percent wanting it to be illegal. The poll also makes clear that people are becoming increasingly concerned about a lack of jobs, the growing gap between rich and poor, and the declining standard of living. They are becoming more receptive to government activism to deal with national problems and less confident that the private sector can fix them. These are all issues on which the liberal approach to policy is more popular and the conservative position is weak. I think it is only a matter of time before liberal intellectuals begin articulating specific ideas that will find favor with the electorate--conservatives will be left with little to say except, “no.”

What's happening is the information available and mass communication on the internet is taking the "scary factor" out of allot of these social issues. The Reps are in a tough place as they use the religious folks as a base of their electorate, so they still feel they have to stick to the big government approach on social issues, protecting us from ourselves. It would be awesome if they went libertarian, but there is not enough money in it yet, to abandon the holly rollers and big corporate donors. The Dems should go on a long winning streak, nationally as the Reps are being pulled in opposite directions, but alas the Dems are morons who have no real values either way and are also owned by the corporations as well, thus ruining the obvious advantage they should have with these social trends.
This would be a great time for a socially liberal, economically conservative candidate to come out of a third party and take this thing, but alas, there are too many sheep who buy the line their masters sell them cycle after cycle, that a third party candidate can't win so don't waste your vote, and instead vote for someone they know deep down inside is a criminal and/or a selfish dick.

Don't vote for a person that promises to be the Shepard. If the sheep didn't get in a frenzy every 4 years begging for a new sheep herder, this problem would go away. In the 1800's, the majority of Americans didn't even know the name of the President, they didnt care.
liberalism isn't coming....just new handlers....because no matter what it will be another set of handlers to tell you where your liberalism boundaries will be set...why? because then the liberal lawyers won't have jobs if there are no boundaries...and no matter what someone else is going to tell you where your boundaries are....AND...they too will come 'into your home' just as the conservatives to make sure you are as liberal as they think you should be, and it could be based on what your neighbor reports to the liberal authorities.
you see Box,,,it's not progressive, it's not liberal, it's not conservative....it's about power, money, control, authority.
it's the root not the fruit
if liberalism was alive like you think it should be be...then I should be able to go to saratoge with a food truck that says dago....
...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......
The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
