It wasn't a strawman argument, your opinion coming in is that respect should be given because of a job or costume one wears, am I wrong?

Since most cops I've encountered are at the very least adequate, and most I would say, do a good job...
I have no reason to suspect that they are in your "thug" category.
I know a few cops and I used to know a few more... they are like plumbers, lawyers, welders, secretaries...
most try to do a good job.  Sometimes they fail, some times thy make mistakes and on rare occasions, they
do a bad job.
I would at the least give them the same respect that I would give any other reasonable person... I'm not
rude to the cashier at the supermarket or the mailman, the kid at the car wash, the clerk at motor vehicles...
why would I be rude or suspect the cop to be any different.

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

I never said to be rude, I'm trying to say treat people the way you would like to be treated. For example about 6 months ago I was pulled over by a women officer, she asked if I knew why she pulled me over, knowing better not to incriminate myself I said no, she told me my license plate light was out and I should try to get it fixed, she then told me to drive safe and have a nice night, she was very polite and I told her to do the same, end of story. Point being she wanted no problems and neither did I, now if she started coming at me unsnapping her pistol yelling orders trying to be some big shot then I would have a problem with that. Some cops are rude, some cashiers are rude, how they act will judge how they're treated in return.

Why?  Because none of the other occupations have the authority to detain you against your will. If I meet a bad plumber, the worst he can do is not fix my toilet.  If I encounter a bad cop, I can have a gun waved in my face and life threatened while sitting in traffic minding my own business, like the Schenectady cop that did it to a couple of people driving in Scotia.  Or I can have the Schenectady County Sheriffs plant drugs on me, arrest me and destroy my business, like what they did to the shop owner in Scotia.  In both cases, nobody that did these things are in jail.

Exactly my point how they treat others is how they will be treated, they shouldn't get a pass because of their costume or job.

Your story is very similar to mine.  The cops I've dealt with were polite and took care of business.
I've met one who offduty was a jerk.  Loud, obnoxious and rude... I was surprised to see him in action
and from others who knew him... on the job he is all business.

If you were driving 100mph, resisting any reasonable request to step out of the car or keep your
hands out of your pockets... I would expect the situation to change wouldn't you?
No one had to die when that cop was shot... yet you blame the cop, not the shooter.

Yelling and barking orders is seen as hostile, the situation was 2 men who weren't going to take any $hit from the other one and the cop lost, both acted like idiots and I see why both thought they were in the right, the man was acting like a dimwit but the cop also was also threatening by his voice and actions.

So a random cop, driving by in a cop car... does he have your respect... or does he have to... you know
piss on a liberal or something before he EARNS your respect?

Can you tell by just seeing one of these cops if he is a "respect" cop or just a typical "thug" cop?

How do you know when you drive by and there's a cop bleeding on the side of the road, do you smile
or frown... how do you keep it all straight?

If a random Crypt or Blood drives by you does he have your disrespect?

Is he a bad person for wearing the colors of known gangsters?

Colors!
