Bill 'The Second Amendment Is Bulls--t' Maher: 'I Ain’t Giving Up My Gun'

By Noel Sheppard | May 18, 2013 | 12:59

Bill Maher on Friday once again exposed himself as a total hypocrite.

Minutes after telling his HBO Real Time panel "the Second Amendment is bulls--t,"

he admitted having two firearms in his house - "one upstairs and one down"

- claiming, "As long as we live in the gun country, I ain’t giving up my gun"

(video follows with transcript and commentary):

BILL MAHER: One of the problems with the left is that for example guns. Let's take the issue du jour. You know, this Manchin-Toomey bill that didn't even pass, you know, I mean, this was, the name of it was the Public Safety and Second Amendment Protection Act. With friends like these, who needs enemies? It actually said if you create a gun registry, it's punishable by 15 years in prison. This is coming from the so-called Democrats. Where are the people on the left standing up and saying, “Of course we need a gun registry?” Where are the people…

    MICHAEL MOORE: I’m here.

MAHER: Yeah, I know. Me too. I’m saying…

ANDREW ROSS SORKIN, NEW YORK TIMES: I'm with you. I’m right here.

MAHER: But they’re not represented. I keep saying where are the people on the left just to go after the Second Amendment and say the Second Amendment is bulls--t? It says a well regulated militia.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Maher has said this. He made the same statement last month.

Yet just a few minutes later came this stunning revelation:

MAHER: I say all the time on this show, as long as we live in the gun country, I ain’t giving up my gun.

    S.E. CUPP: There you go.

MAHER: There have been twelve home invasions in my neighborhood in the last year.

CUPP: Of course you want one.

    SORKIN: You have a gun?

S.E. CUPP: Of course he has a gun.

    MAHER: I have two guns.

ZACH GALIFANAKIS: He's carrying one now.

MAHER: One upstairs and one down.

MOORE: How often do you go to a shooting range to practice?

    MAHER: Few times a year.

MOORE: You need to go more than that. I mean, if you wake up in the middle of the night. Well, the middle of the night for you is ten in the morning.

MAHER: Let’s go tomorrow, Mike. Ten in the morning?

CUPP: I’m sure Bill Maher like most gun owners who are lawful gun owners is a responsible gun owner.

    MAHER: Yes, of course.

MOORE: But if he’s coming out of a deep sleep and then he hears something in the house, to find your gun and in the dark try and shoot somebody...

MAHER: As opposed to what? Just getting mowed down. I don’t understand this idea.

    MOORE: Get a dog.

MAHER: I have a dog too.

    MOORE: That’s all you need.

MAHER: Oh, he’s about this big.

MOORE: The criminal does not want to enter…

CUPP: That's not all I will need to protect myself.

So as a result of home invasions in his neighborhood - which so happens to be the exclusive area known as Beverly Hills! - Maher owns two guns so that in case anyone tries to illegally enter his home, he won't get "mowed down."

But "the Second Amendment is bulls--t" and guns were only intended to be legal for a "well regulated militia."

It's the classic liberal "Do As I Say, Not As I Do!"

Bill Maher is allegedly a comedian. He's entitled to his opinions, but I don't understand why people want to give his views any more weight than anyoneelse's. Most entertainers are hypocrites when it comes to gun ownership. They are hypocrites on a lot of issues. How many entertainers refuse to wear expensive designer clothing labels if they make their clothes in sweatshops that collapse or catch fire overseas?
I was watching a network news report on "cheap clothing" that attempted to blame "our cheap clothing habit" for these disasters. First of all, one of the stores they mentioned was GAP, and GAP sells shirts that can cost $40-50, which isn't cheap, for many Americans. Second, of course they mention Walmart, even though these last couple of events weren't in places Walmart does business with, and Walmart is the place where people who make $8.00 an hour can afford to buy clothes. They pay extremely low wages overseas, but they charge the consumer on this end low prices. They never blame the way over-priced 'designer' crap that celebrities buy to show off, and that stuff is made in the same cruddy deathtrap factories as other clothing.

Yes, he has been a hypocrite. But he also bills himself as a comedian and then tries to pass himself off as some sort of journalist or political analyst but he is just another phony hypocritical celebrity/entertainer and I would not expect him to be any better. I think that people shouldn't fall into the trap of giving these attention junkies what they crave to feed their fat egos.
Jim Carrey, remember him mocking second amendment supporters? His girlfriend claimed she could cure autism and discouraged people from vaccinating their children based on her research. And he thought gun owners were stupid and harmful.
I just think that people give these types too much attention outside of their spheres of expertise, that's all I'm trying to say.

sounds like Box and J.O. Box

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Maher, a hypocrite?

Maher is a gun owner who keeps two guns for home protection... he's also in favor of Background Checks...
And???

This makes him a hypocrite???  There are many 2nd amendment supporters who own guns and are in
favor of reasonable gun laws.
Gabby Giffords, Bill Maher & myself included.

87 percent of non-NRA gun-owners and 74 percent of NRA gun owners support criminal background
checks on gun owners

80 percent of non-NRA gun-owners and 79 percent of NRA gun owners support criminal background
checks on gun shop employees.

If we, the vast majority of Americans support these reasonable gun laws, and even Conservative
Supreme Court Justice Scalia agrees that some gun restrictions are within the scope of the 2nd
amendment... then where is the hypocrisy?

GunHuggers, and their well funded lobby, the NRA will continue to be on the side of the
criminal, the insane and the terrorist, helping them procure guns to use against law abiding
Americans.

Jezzzzzzzzz Graham.  IF you're going to make a suggestion... then make it a valid one.

This will be the second time that I'm asking Graham about "Gun Confiscation".  GB has claimed
that I want to 'take away our guns' or now that we should "turn in our guns"...
As usual... Graham is all mouth, and no facts.
All Sizzle, but no Steak.
All Macho Bluster... but not one word to back up his empty words.

I'll ask again GB.  When have I (or Obama) wanted to Confiscate America's Guns???
