(UPDATE) Philadelphia plane brought back to gate at Logan Airport

“Out of an abundance of caution a U.S. Airways flight was remotely parked at the airfield while a bag on board was examined. The passengers were bused to the terminal, the baggage was deemed harmless, and the flight taxied to the gate. Airport operations were not impacted,” said Matthew Brelis, of Massport.
A plane that originated in Philadelphia on Tuesday morning and landed in Boston was the scene of a possible security breach. U.S. Airways flight 1716 was evacuated due to a suspicious package on board, and all luggage was removed from the plane.

Another plane was brought back to the gate earlier Tuesday.
According to a report by FOX 25, an American Airlines flight that was headed to Chicago contained two men who were “speaking Arabic,” although they were not seated next to each other.
There were some concerned marathoners on the flight so the plane was brought back to the gate and the two men were escorted off the plane.
No other details were immediately available. This morning a spokesman for MassPort said that Boston Logan International Airport remains open, connecting Massachusetts and New England to the world.
There is heightened security on roadways, in terminals and on the airfield.
On Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration changed the runway configuration in use at the airport and in doing so issued a ground stop – a common occurrence to slow traffic headed to an airport by keeping planes on the ground. Planes continued to depart Logan and flights in the air landed at Logan as scheduled. The ground stop lasted for 20 minutes and the airport remained open and operating throughout that time.
“The safety and security of the people who use Logan or who work here are our top priority, and we will work with federal, state and local officials to assist them in the investigation of the attack on our city. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families and loved ones.”
