A former boyfriend of a Mohonasen High School graduate appears to be a focus of an intense police investigation into the strangulation deaths Wednesday of a 23-year-old woman and her 52-year-old mother, according to a person with knowledge of the probe into the killings.
It was unclear whether the man was in custody Wednesday night. But the individual, who requested anonymity because of the ongoing probe, said the man became a person of interest after he was allegedly caught trying to put out a fire near the home of Tammy McCormack at 1142 Inner Drive. Police are calling the two women's death suspicious.
McCormack's daughter, whose name had not been released Wednesday night, graduated from Mohonasen High School about five years ago, said authorities.
Tammy McCormack worked for the Schenectady school district as an assistant human resources director.
McCormack's colleagues became concerned when she failed to show up for work Wednesday, Superintendent Lawrence Spring said. He said the district plans to convene a crisis response team.
A moment of silence for McCormack was held during Wednesday night's school board meeting.
There were unconfirmed media reports that McCormack's son discovered the bodies and that police were hunting for a dark-colored vehicle that neighbors reported seeing leave the McCormack residence Wednesday morning.
Police tape surrounded the home, and later two police investigators in white protective suits entered the residence in this quiet part of town with modest homes. A small sport utility vehicle emblazoned with the Green Bay Packers logo was parked in the driveway. Neighbors milled about in shock.
The fire department initially responded to home for a report of a structure fire; the bodies were discovered after the small fire was extinguished, a person familiar with the case said.
Detective Lt. Michael Brown said officers were called to the home at 10:15 a.m.

Bryce Rivenburg has been charged with one count of burglary for allegedly breaking into Tammy McCormack's home at 1142 Inner Drive.
McCormack, a Schenectady school employee along with her 23-year-old daughter, were found strangled to death Wednesday inside their home after emergency crews responded to a reported of a fire.
Once that small fire was extinguished, police discovered the bodies of the two women.
The family owns Lyle's Hoagies, a popular sandwich shop in Schenectady.

I kind of suspected he got each one while they were asleep and the other didn't wake up while the first was being murdered/ But who knows. Maybe he had a key and entered quietly. What a scum. Strangling is rather personal, but don't count out that he was on drugs and knew they had money there so this may be a double motive of hate and greed.
