In one of the most awkward moments of the talk, Paul asked the audience if
anyone knew that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP) had been founded by Republicans.
The audience responded with a resounding “yes!”

It may have been awkward in that room at Howard University.  But he was aware he was being filmed and that reporters were going to write exactly what you quoted above because they thought it would embarrass him.   Now people that may have never known that FACT now do.  He didn't speak at Howard to just speak to the 100+ in the room, but because he knew it would be a national story and now that FACT potentially reaches millions.  Very clever.

You may see it as "clever"... the Republican Party, who was hoping to draw in minority votes, sees
it as a "disaster."

What's clever is your interpretation of what his intent was...you must have insider information.
What's clever is that if he knew as you say, that he STILL SAID IT!

JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!!

Libs wanted his speech to be a disaster but the fact he got positive feedback by the majority of the crowd, box must hate that considering how to him any black who supports republicans must be an Uncle Tom
He got a few bad reviews by some in the audience but even he knew he couldn't convince everyone, this was a success and that is why box keeps attacking him.

I'm sure he taught a couple people here that

Randy assumed that he could 'school' these bright college kids about the NAACP!
LMAO! Mistake #1!

Quoted Text
On Wednesday morning, Senator Rand Paul  gave an address at the historically-black
Howard University designed to convince black voters to support Republicans.
While some of his remarks, most notably on harsh drug laws and other civil liberties issues,
were well-received, the majority of the speech consisted in Paul condescendingly explaining
American racial history to the audience, occasionally incorrectly,
and expecting that it would open black voters’ eyes to the real Republican Party.

Paul gave a political history lesson of the Dems and Reps pre 1940's.
He failed to address the changing racial attitudes of these parties post 1960's... Which was
the reason for his visit... to draw minorities into the Republican Party.

From the audience questions of  how African-Americans could trust the Republican Party given
its generalized support for discriminatory voter ID laws...
Paul's response was to suggesting voter ID laws were common sense. Paul argued that the view
that these laws were an updated version of poll taxes was “[demeaning] the horror” of segregation.
Of course the FACTS say the opposite:
Quoted Text
NAACP President Benjamin Jealous has said voter ID laws are “pushing more voters out
of the ballot box than any point since Jim Crow.”

Over 50 percent of black voters in the last election believed Republicans
“don’t care at all about civil rights,” while 71 percent thought Democrats were doing strong
work in the area. President Obama won 93 percent of black voters.

I agree... a communications success!
I had just fleeting knowledge about Ron Paul when I started posting here.  The more that I read about
Rand, the more I disliked his policies.
(Paul never even managed to break into the 1% range in his presidential elections)

Similarly,
The more information presented to the voters, the less likely they will vote for MiniMe.

The first step is entering the debate.  I'm sure he's well aware he isn't going to change the opinions of seniors.  They are set in their ways.  He went to a university to give his speech, not a senior center.  You aren't his target audience.  Duhhh...

Just as Ronny Paul went to colleges, and (according to some on this board) he was wildly received and
welcomed as the Messiah!!!
But at the polls... Nuttin'... Zilch!... not even 1% of the national vote... ever!

Randy Paul at Howard:
The Washington Post:

Quoted Text
Paul acknowledged that his wooing of African Americans “is an uphill battle,”
and his hour with the students confirmed this.
Talking about the Republicans’ historical support for civil rights, he said: “I’ll give you one example.
The first, one of the African American U.S. senators was a guy named, uh, I’m blanking on his name,
from Massachusetts — ”

Edward Brooke!” several in the audience called out.
"Edwin Brookes,” Paul repeated.
(Clueless. Even when the students tell him the name Paul gets it wrong!     )

The students broke out in hysterics.
The laughter had barely subsided when Paul posed a question.
“If I were to have said, ‘Who do you think the founders of the NAACP are?’ . . . would everybody in here know they were all Republicans?”

“Yes,” several could be heard grumbling. “Of course they would,” one woman informed him.

Paul dug himself in deeper. “I don’t know what you know,” he said.

They knew enough to be suspicious of his central argument:
that Abraham Lincoln’s Republican Party is the same Republican Party that now
dominates the South.
This analysis glossed over the civil rights era, when Democrats and Republicans essentially
switched sides as southern Dixiecrats left for the GOP.

A student questioner sought clarification. “Are we discussing the Republican
Party of the 19th century?” he asked, to applause. “Or are we discussing the
post-1968 Republican Party?”

It's demographics box.  The college youth are not a politically active yet.  They probably won't be until they are in their late 20's and early 30's when they are living on their own, raising children, paying taxes, and paying bills.  These college speaking tours are incubators offering new and alternate political philosophies other than those spewed by the leftist college professors.

You will be wearing Depends in some nursing home when the fruits of these tours are harvested.  This isn't about the next election cycle.  This is for after the boomer generation clears the system or their numbers are reduced to a minority.

HUH!  What planet do you live on???

People age 18 to 29 made up 19 percent of voters in this election cycle,
up 1 percentage point from 2008, according to early National Exit Poll (NEP) data.

President Obama won this age group with 60 percent support, versus 37 percent for Mitt Romney.
Older voters went for Romney, and the younger the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Obama.
Voters 40 and over favored Romney, and those 39 and under favored Obama.

Cissy, the trend is going against you with this group... and that group is growing!

Notice how Cissy doesn't disclose his generation; what his generation has
done to improve the nation/economy and future of the country; what he has
contributed to future success of the country either, except to attack everything
and anything; offer no viable solutions; spew hate and blame everyone else!  If HE is the next generation
to run this country, then we know we are a doomed nation!
