Can anybody tell me what the benefit is for a Blackhawk pilot to fire blank rounds from the 105 mm Howitzer at night in a major U.S. city?

If you're talking about the blanks heard on the video... I'm not sure, but I doubt it was a 105 howitzer.

105's can fire somewhere between 3 and 10 rounds per minute.

What ever they armed it with, it wasn't a cap gun.  Question still remains, what benefit is firing blanks to the pilot?  Can't the pilot train their sights on a target without the blank rounds being fired and get the same results?

It's interesting also that it looks like first one is a Sikorsky Blackhawk, but the 2 that follow look more like small Bell copters.

Cic... if you lived near an Marine Base you would be used to this kind of thing.  Do you see the C130's
flying out of Stratton Air Guard Base, flying over head???
Do they intimidate you??? Or like most people in the area, they are used to them and hardly pay
attention to them.

If you are going to "practice"... then you make your "practice" as close to the actual thing as possible.
I'm sure you've seen EMT drills where they will stage a highway accident with multiple bloody bodies
strewn all over the highway, Right?
They could just practice with no bodies and no fake blood and no fake wounds, but to get close to the
real thing in practice helps the real thing go smoother.

Your lack of any kind of military experience surprises me even today Cic... Ask a relative who served
in the Marines... maybe they can enlighten you.

It's a joint military and police practice... maybe the following two were police aircraft???

Great, maybe the next exercise will include abandon cars on I-95 rigged with pyrotechnics that they can explode to simulate Hellfire missiles.  Then for added effect, they can have soldiers pissing on the bloody bodies strewn all over the highway.  All in the name of public safety of course.

They don't see a problem flying military choppers over a populated city and letting off machine gun bursts, good way to scare the crap out of people but maybe that is the goal. This reminds me of the story I read right after the Sandy shooting where police busted into a school and started firing blanks while the school was occupied, none of the teachers or students were aware this was going to take place. The response was it was for training purposes but why would you scare kids half to death by making them think there was a active shooter in the school. These are the fcking retards that are supposed to protect us, yeah right.

If the C130's were being armed like AC47's with mini guns and flying circular patterns around Schenectady and firing blanks out of the mini guns, you are damn straight that would get the attention of most all the residents.
