I have a very low opinion of many of the college professors that are supposed to be teaching students how to succeed in life and instead fill their heads with ideological dribble. After those students grow up and have a job, pay their bills/taxes, raise a family and find out what it's like in the real world then I would value their opinion a lot more.

Obama easily won the youth vote nationally, 67 percent to 30 percent, with young voters proving
the decisive difference in Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The demographics among minorities and young voters will just grow as older white voters die off.

27% of eligable voters voted for Obama - 73% didn't.  There are about 229 million eligible voters in the U.S. - 62 Million voted for Obama, 167 million didn't.

Do you think we will see it in our lifetime?
Somehow big money has to be removed from the process.

Hopefully the Republican party can return to it's former glory when they actually had IDEAS and stood
for something.  The GOP used to be the party of Fiscal Conservativism...
now they are the party of Crazy!

How people feel about a President or government in general is solely based on their wallets.
As long as the economy appears to be growing and unemployment does not rise, they're all fat, dumb, and happy.

Things like the deficit and accrued debt are not effecting people directly, but will in the future.
The fact is, I've come to realize the average American doesn't worry about it...either because they don't have the IQ to comprehend it, or just they don't care.

they're too busy:

clicking their seat belts
putting on their helmets
installing sprinkler heads
running around their homes checking all the locks on their doors over and over and over
checking the labels on all the styrofoam cups they buy
making sure all the warning labels remain on their hair dryers
checking that their energy used isn't above their neighbors
finding 'green energy' appliances and making sure they save that receipt for their government refund
clipping coupons for savings
making sure their overtime isn't just a waste compared to payroll taxes
making sure they DVR American Idol
checking their FB

etc etc

just too busy

Huh?  Whether they chose to vote for somebody other than Obama or they chose not to vote for all, in either case 166 or 167 million eligible voters did NOT vote for Obama.

So, we'll try again
- 63.3M eligible voters chose to vote for a candidate other than Obama
- 103.7M eligible voters chose not to vote for any candiate.
- 167 Million eligible voters DID NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA

FACTS!

165M chose not to vote for the REPUBLICAN, the LIBERTARIAN, the GREEN PARTY or the OTHER choice or not to vote.

I'm sorry that you have such a low opinion of America's future.  Those who vote for one political party
when they first get interested in politics... usually late teens to early 20's, generally vote that same
way throughout their life.

Do you have facts to back that up or are you just pontificating again???
Anecdotally, I find most people get more fiscally conservative as they get older as they lose their idealism to the reality of life

I read a summary of a study that said 'voter party identification' is set early... usually late teens or early
20's and unless there are extreme changes, will remain mostly stable throughout a voters history.
This isn't the report that I read then, but contains some of the same conclusions.

Quoted Text
According to Campbell et al. (1960), party identification is a long-term
psychological attachment to a political party). The social psychological
theory of party identification presented in The American Voter suggests that party
identification develops early in one’s life and is influenced by one’s parents through
the process of political socialization. Over time, people form an affective
attachment to a particular party, which persists throughout the course of their lives
and shapes their views and evaluations of politics. Because party identification
colors citizens’ evaluations of issues, candidates, and political events, it plays a
fundamental role in their vote choice. Although the model of party identification
presented in The American Voter suggests that party identification is highly stable
over time, Campbell et al. (1960) carefully note that ‘‘When we examine the
evidence on the manner in which party attachment develops and changes during a
lifetime of the individual citizen, we find a picture characterized more by stability
than by change—not by rigid, immutable fixation on one party rather than the other,
but by a persistent adherence and a resistance to contrary influence’’ . Put simply,
party identification is stable, emotionally based, and
highly resistant to change except when large-scale political events or stressful
conditions, such as depressions, occur (Fiorina 1981).
