Before the NYS law was passed there were assault rifles that were legal under the law, after passage of the law the state changed the way that they determine what makes a gun an assault weapon making a previous legal gun illegal under the new law. You could own a gun that had 2 features and be legal to the new version where if it has 1 of these features it is now illegal: pistol grip, thumbhole stock, flash hider, bayonet holder, or muzzle brake. There are also a lot of high powered rifles with muzzle brakes used to reduce recoil.

If you want the TRUTH and the FACTS of this hoax, go to the site below...
If you would rather believe that EVERYTHING is actually a 'government hoax' then please go on believing
any bogus story from some obscure conspiracy site as if it were the truth.

The truth is often boring and dull but FACTS often are boring and dull.
Conspiracy, on the other hand, is always provocative, exciting and fun!

There seem to be a certain group of people who go out of their way to ignore the FACTS and embrace
a good conspiracy... for those people, FACTS are an annoyance and not to be trusted.

If you are one who would rather hear the boring dull FACTS... see link below:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/newtown.asp

If you are among the fun, exciting, provocative Conspiracy people... see link below:

thanks Shadow

Box does not understand why so many gun owners are upset.

He/she also does not understand about the Constitution.

If posters here posted FACTS instead of Right Wing HYPE, possibly we all could come to some consensus
on this issue.

Joebxr posted a good information site about the NY Gun Law... it contains FACTS!  Apparently some
posters are allergic to FACTS, and much prefer OPINION and HYPE.

If you want the FACTS do what I just did and go to the NY Gun Law site:
http://www.governor.ny.gov/2013/gun-reforms-faq

I found these FACTS there:

Q: I have an assault weapon. Do I have to give it up?

A: No. If you have an assault weapon, you can register it with the State Police. You have until
April 15, 2014 to register your weapon. A form will be made available on this website no later
than April 15, 2013. Under state and federal law, some people are not allowed to possess a
weapon, such as convicted felons, individuals who have been involuntarily committed, or
individuals currently under an order of protection. These people will not be able to register.
There is no fee for registering.

I am not a Constitutional Law expert... I don't know you but I doubt that you are an expert either.

I did consult experts on the 2nd amendment... and I did quote supreme court decisions on this
issue.  Both agree with my views... If I am in error RP, please show me where I made a mistake
about the 2nd amendment.
I'm open to an opposing view backed up by facts.

definition? very subjective....remember once a diagnosis always a diagnosis...you can't disprove that kind of diagnosis even if
it's wrong....

we have made 'gods' over us, out of our fellow humans...now that's more dangerous than an assault weapon

P.S. a frying pan/penis/pen/plate/car/knife etc can all be described as an assault weapon depending on what you do with them

Not a single feature listed as qualifying a weapon as an assault weapon contributed to Sandy Hook.

How does a collapsible stock, pistol grip, flash suppressor or bayonet holder make a weapon more dangerous?

How does a 7 round clip make a 10 round clip weapon safer?

Saying that you can have a 10 round clip, but can only have 7 in it, will only apply to the law abiding users.

Criminals and crazies will do whatever the hell they want.

It's mass hysteria, pure and simple. The assault style weapons look scary to the timid and
easily frightened types.

The new gun laws will make the state absolutely no safer for anyone.

Registering a gun that was legal last year is not going to make the gun legal, it is still an illegal registered gun under the new NYS gun law. I will be interested to see how many assualt weapon owners will register their guns under the NYS law. Criminals will still bring in guns from other states just like they do drugs and it will be a way for them to make a lot of money doing it.

Please stop referring to a penis as an assault weapon.

It will only incite hysterical liberals to pass laws regulating them.

No Shadow... if you own an assault weapon today and register it when required, it will be a LEGALLY
OWNED GUN.  You can keep it, fire it, and use it (legally).

My point is that a gun that was not considered an assault weapon last year is now considered an assault weapon since this law was passed because of things on the gun that have nothing to do with an assault weapon. A pistol grip, muzzle brake, bayonet holder, folding stock, or thumbhole stock can kill no one and are harmless and if placed on another type of gun would make that gun an assault weapon. If there's another mass shooting, and there will be, will this state pass another law making it illegal to posess an assault weapon then just go out and collect them using the data in their computers???
