They don't consider themselves "tea party" because most realized it was co-opted by the statists in the establishment party. More people are not consenting to the political system. The nomination of Romney alienated millions that now opt not to participate, it doesn't mean they joined the ranks of the republican or democrat parties.

As said above the establishment is trying everything to get real conservatives back except for actually making the changes that count, they will talk the talk but that is about it.

I think more people are realizing that not casting a vote sends more of a message than a protest vote for a 3rd party candidate. They see the system is rigged by a ruling class and that participation in the national debate is limited by those that control the corporate state.
