Henry wants  "the best tool for the job for protecting them self." Both the AR15 and her
.38 are inferior to a 12Ga shotgun with either slugs or buckshot.  If like Henry, she wanted the best tool
for  the job, she'd join the assualt weapon ban and buy a shotgun.

As posted at the GunNut website..."One of these rounds is virtually equal to a nine-round burst from a
submachine gun, with every round hitting."

Many women and some smaller framed men can't handle a 12 guage shotgun all to well so that is not an option for all people. People should pick what fits them best be it a shotgun or a AR-15

So the choice is what fits best??? Their personal preference is paramount and the safety of the rest of
us is a minor issue.
What fits me best is a 106 recoiless rifle.  I've had experience with this weapon, I know it's capabilities
and I think it fits MY personal needs best.  I wouldn't have to worry about shooting an attacker 5 times
and running out of ammo, would I?

"People should pick what fits them best"... and screw everyone else!

How about what's best for the community... What's best for our kids... What's best for America???

The "community" and "America" won't be in my house at 3am when 3 gang bangers from the slums of Schenectady are breaking in.

You've been brainwashed thoroughly, you put the state and "community" above the safety of the individual and family.  Luckily you are of the exiting boomer generation

Right... YOU NEED A 106 Recoiless Rifle!  Really YOU DO!  Nothing will stop those '3 gang bangers from the
slums of Schdy like a 106 round in the chest!

Of course Cicero, once you get that 106 and it's legal for the rest of us to get one... then of course
the 3 gang bangers will ALSO have a 106 when they come for you... it's called "weapons escalation"...
and that's what you are promoting.

(I don't know why your neighbors would mind!   )

When it comes down to protecting ones family you damn right you pick what suits you best to handle the job, if men with guns are kicking in your door do you grab a knife or your gun? Well in your case you grab a phone and pray someone else saves you

None of that matters if you are dead because you didn't have what was necessary to defend yourself properly, maybe you should think about this family and the kids who were killed

It's true what they say about Conservatives... They ARE "fear motivated".  It's a defect in their brain that
increases their response to fear and causes their paranoia.

See:
"Why Is the Conservative Brain More Fearful?
The Alternate Reality Right-Wingers Inhabit Is Terrifying"

Quoted Text
Conservatives are, on average, more susceptible to fear than those who identify themselves
as liberals. Looking at MRIs of a large sample of young adults last year, researchers at University
College London discovered that “greater conservatism was associated with increased volume of
the right amygdala”.
The amygdala is an ancient brain structure that's activated during states of fear and anxiety.
The researchers also found that “greater liberalism was associated with increased gray matter
volume in the anterior cingulate cortex” – a region in the brain that is believed to help people
manage complexity.

Box, you confuse "legal" and "available".  All weapons that have been designed since the dawn of time are available.  Doesn't matter what is "legal", it matters what's available.

Law enforcement won't be turning in their assault rifles anytime soon because they are aware what's available, and they don't want to be at a disadvantage.

I'll repeat it for FEARFUL Cicero.  Henry seems to FEAR criminals, while Cic is petrified of his
own government and especially the police.

I used to think that Conservatives were just non-thinkers... now I realize that they can't help the
defective brain that they were born with.
  A pity.

So what is behind your fear of firearms in the hands of law abiding citizens? Why should people who owned  AR-15's for decades now be made to turn them in if you had your way?

Assualt weapons are unnecessary and only escalate the weapons wars in our country.  They serve no
'useful' purpose that can't be achieved by other weapons.
We need to curb the violence that is being promoted by groups like the NRA.

NRA supported:
Teflon coated "cop killer" bullets.
Armor piercing bullets.
NO background checks on any weapon.
Unlimited magazine capacity.

Today the NRA opposes any ban on assualt weapons.  As I've stated many times on this
board.  I support the 2nd amendment, but that support has limits as even the US Supreme Court
agrees.

Your post:
Why should people who owned  AR-15's for decades now be made to turn them in if
you had your way
?
I would support either a  ban on manufacture or a buy back plan similar to the very successful one
established in Australia where the Govt banned assualt weapons then bought them from any resident
who owned them legally.
I also support a ban on manufacture, or a buy back plan for large capacity magazines.

I also support a ban on machine guns, silencers, hand grenades, RPG's... etc.

Quoted Text
In 1996, in reaction to the death of 35 people in a shooting massacre in Tasmania, Australia
passed legislation banning semi-automatic rifles and shotguns and instituted a mandatory
government buyback for these weapons. Nearly 700,000 guns were purchased from a population
of approximately 12,000,000 people. In a study done a decade later, it was found that the firearm
homicide rate declined by 59% and firearm suicides by 65%. There was no reported corresponding
increase in homicides and suicides in non-fiream related incidents. Furthermore, mass shootings have
declined to 0 since full implementation of the law.

Where would our government get the kind of money needed to pay the market price for the guns if they were to try the buy back approach? You're talking millions of very expensive guns.

You mean a forced buy back plan right, those law abiding citizens who owned their guns for decades with now be criminals if they fail to sell them. And how much would a AR-15 get in a buy back, a lousy $250 gift card? Where would the money come from, oh they will use our tax dollars to try to buy our guns. You know how many they will get, probably none, that box would be the last straw and blood will probably flow from a result of such a move. Expect to see this banner more often in the coming months

They would try to offer probably 1/10 of their value if that, it will be either sell them or be a criminal, well I guess there will be tens of millions more criminals in this country.

Everyone that has an assault rifle is NOT going to turn them in no matter what the government says or does so I guess there will be many millions of new felons in the USA.

The last three posts... examples of Right Wing Paranoia.

How did Australia manage to buy back those guns??? Do the Aussies have more dollars than we do to stop
gun violence???
Why not take the dollars we now spend subsidizing oil companies and spend it on buying back guns at the
present value.
