HACKENSACK — A bomb threat at Hackensack High School led to the arrest of two teenage students Thursday night.
Capt. Thomas Salcedo of the Hackensack police said that just after 6 p.m., a teacher at the school called police to report an email she had received while at home.
"She received an email from a student indicating the school was going to blow up tomorrow (Friday)," he said.
The high school was evacuated, and a K-9 unit from the Bergen County Police Department was called in to check for any suspicious materials. That search came up empty, according to Salcedo.
Meanwhile, detectives tracked down the 15-year-old student, who claimed a friend had accessed his account to send the email. The friend, a 14-year-old freshman, admitted to sending it, and was arrested for creating a false public alarm.
The 15-year-old, also a freshman, was charged with tampering with evidence because he had attempted to delete all traces of the email after finding out it was sent.
According to Salcedo, both told police the threat was made in jest and that there was no danger to the school or the teacher who received the email.
Both students were released to the custody of their parents.
