Obama isn't taking away your guns but he will do these 7 things:

1. Nominate an ATF director. There hasn't been a director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,
Firearms, and Explosives since 2006. Obama will nominate B. Todd Jones to the post.

2. Require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
Kind of a no-brainer.

3. Start a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

4. Direct the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to research gun violence. Obama is also
calling on Congress to approve funding for this research. There's been a freeze on CDC research
on gun violence for 17 years.

5. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act doesn't prohibit doctors from talking with their patients
about gun safety. The NRA inserted a provision in the law that says doctors don't have to do
this; Obama is clarifying that it's not prohibited, either.

6. Improve the federal background checks system. There are several items addressing this, like
incentives for states to share information, requiring federal agencies to make relevant information
available, and giving law enforcement authorities the ability to run a full background check
on a person before returning a seized gun.

7. Provide law enforcement authorities, first responders, and school officials with proper training
for armed attacks situations.
